One of our community partner organizations is looking for an assistant for an elderly South Asian man who is homebound. He is looking for a South Asian person to help him with basic
housekeeping chores (mainly light cooking, perhaps only one meal a day, and
perhaps light cleaning such as dishwashing.) He is still mobile and is
willing to even teach the person how to cook, as his diet is very particular,
as he only eats halal, but can not eat any spices.
He needs someone who can preferably communicate with him in Urdu or Hindi.
He is offering to pay this person. If anyone is caring and willing to help you can have them then email yturk@ctmuslimaat.org and I will give them the contact info.

Re: Texas Thread
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOO
As Salam Alaikum,
Sadly, I must inform the community that Shk Umer will be leaving Austin.
His departure is a mutually agreed decision and is a result solely of immigration issues.
There was a meeting with community elders on Saturday, 17th May to discuss possible options. It was at this meeting that Shk Umer announced his decision. Those present agreed that Shk's going back to Canada is probably the most realistic option.
I think we all agree that Shk Umer has done an outstanding job as imam and director of religious affairs at NAMCC. We are all very sad to see him go but at the same time, wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Re: Texas Thread
Hello.
Austin, home of millions of fire ants.
I lived there for a while, loved the place.
Muslims have it much better there than San Antonio, but Houston is THE place for the Islamic community in Texas, if only for the sheer numbers of Muslims.
I love the Islamic community, no matter where I go.

Re: Texas Thread
I forgot who the Imam was, but back around 6 yrs ago, it was boys vs. girls. And one such bet came from the boys that we had to aim the b-ball at the Imam. What was even more hilarious was the Imam, after getting hit, decided to launch his attack on whoever was closer. Thank god the boys were nearer. It was a jolly good time!

Everyone and their grandma is getting married in Houston for some reason. I don't know what it is about that place.
