hit up frere hall in karachi

In the days of the British Rule, Frere hall served as a Town Hall and was the hub of Karachi’s socio cultural activities. This handsome Venetian Gothic building was built to commemorate the Commissioner-ship of Sir Bartley Frere and his elevation to the Viceroy's Council in 1859. Construction of the building was commenced in August 1863 and was completed in 1865. The ground floor houses a fine public library named Liaquat National Library (after Mr. Liaquat Ali Khan, first Pakistani Prime Minister). It is one of the largest libraries of Karachi, contains over seventy thousand books, including rare and hand written manuscripts, newspapers, dictionaries, atlases and technical books. The upper floor serves as an art gallery containing masterpieces of Pakistan’s famous calligrapher and painter Sadequain. Park suurounding the main building is known as Bagh-e-Jinnah (Jinnah Park). It is very green and beautiful. People come and relax here in free time.

yeah the places i posted about in the karachi thread are all really nice. but if you're short on time, i'd suggest hitting up Lal Qilla (style of 17th century mughal fort) and the Salt and Pepper Village (basically the theme of decor is a village) because they've got the whole good food + traditional atmosphere and all.

Mahata Palace (Qasr-e-Fatima Jinnah)

This palace is situated in the area of Clifton, built in 1933 in a Mughal Ghothic style with imposing domes and cupolas. The palace was used as the residence of Quid-e-Azam's sister, Fatima Jinnah until her death in 1967. It is also known as Qasr-e-Fatima Jinnah.

National Museum of Pakistan
The National Museum of Pakistan at Karachi, Pakistan. It was established in Frere Hall Building on April 17, 1950 replacing the defunct Victoria Museum. The historic building of Frere Hall itself was built in 1865 as tribute to Sir Bartle Frere, Commissioner of Sind in the last century. The basic objective of establishing National Museum was to collect, preserve, study, and exhibit the records of the cultural history of Pakistan and to promote a learned insight into the personality of its people. Once the Museum was inaugurated then the Government of Pakistan deemed it wise to constitute an Advisory Council in 1950 with a primary duty to counsel the Museum on the issues of enriching its collection through new acquisitions and purchase of antiquities and works of Arts.

Pakistan Maritime Museum
Pakistan Maritime Museum is a naval museum and park located in naval estate at Habib Ebrahim Rehmatoola Road, in Karachi, Pakistan.

The main museum building is located inside the park. It comprises six galleries and an auditorium. The museum is based on modern concepts of presentation and interactive education. Different artifacts of maritime and naval heritage have been incorporated through attractive dioramas, relief sculpture, murals and miniature paintings, touch screen computers, taxidermy and ancient weapons. A computer based maritime information retrieval system has also been incorporated to facilitate the visitors and students for easy access.

Pakistan Maritime Museum is known for its well-organized displays, rides and greenery. The museum is open throughout the year for seven days a week. There is also a souvenir shop.

Wagah Boarder is pretty cool, when I went people on the Pakistani side were chanting Allahu Akbar and there was Qur'an playing, while on the Indian side they were blasting bhangra and dancing - all while the ceremony was going on. Kind of a strange clash of cultures, though I wonder if Qur'an really represents the identity of Pakistanis...

There's a McDonald's outside of Qaid-e-Azam Airport in Karachi that has awesome Chicken Nuggets.

But other than these nuggets, dont waste your time eating Western foods/restaurants. I went crazy 'cause I was like halal pizza hut!!!! but really i ordered too much, and it didn't taste that great. eat the authentic dishes.

also, i had the tendency to buy insane amounts of souvenirs. I went to the Pakistan Air Force Museum, and bought so many useless things cause i was like HEY, IM PATRIOTIC BUYING THESE KEYCHAINS AND CUPS WITH THE AIRFORCE LOGO!!! but it's dumb.

also, dont talk to any strange men who want to help you with your suitcase.

Have a safe trip, iA. When do you leave? and keep in mind its very, very hot there- your head starts to buzz the moment you step out of the AC. Keep water handy at all times, and stay on Nestle.

Take pictures!
