yeah white vinegar works and is great to polish windows, you don't really need the soap. You might want to add water to dilute the smell. Bircarbonate of soda is really good for cleaning as well.

A REALLY easy way to save a lot of water is to get one of those packs filled with solids to put at the bottom of your toilet water tank and you save a litre of water with every flush.

With me, it's just buying stuff without plastic packaging because recycling still takes up energy and then having a compost heap in your garden and you can reuse it and put it in your plants.

Keeping a big bucket to store rainwater is really helpful because rain water is always good for plants.

Buy vegetables that are in season so that you don't support air miles.

Bike it to places.

Being green is quite difficult and there are times when you just can't be bothered but on the whole, even if it doesn't make a huge difference to the world at least you can live with yourself for not being wasteful and ungrateful of what you are blessed with.

turn the water off when you do the dishes, if you have to have it running like me, let it trinkle.

I actually read, I think from my electric company, that you use LESS water by using a dishwasher than you would washing the dishes by hand.

Oh, in the warm water, save energy- hang your clothes outside. It gives the clothes a beautiful fresh scent...but they are hard as hell when they come in.

Do a lot more exercise outside so you sweat alot and the sweat will evaporate to come down as rain. Do this especially in places that are in dire need of rainfall

putting clothes out to dry in the sun also gives your clothes a longer life....cloth made of satin, silk, linen or georgette warm out in the dryer because theyre so sensitive to the harsh dryer heat and they wear out easily. so putting them to dry out in the sun is better and it doesnt take long either...and especially for the ladies that wear shalwar khameez, u know drying them crinkles them up super super much, to the extent where ironing them is a disaster, so hanging them outside for a good hour in the sun dries them nicely AND you dont have to have a headache while ironing them.

however, for things like cotton t-shirts and jeans and such, the dryer works best cause yeah, they come out HARD if you dry them outside. lol.

“Built with energy-saving fabric and renewable energy systems, manufacturers say the "RuralZED" house can go for a whole year without drawing on National Grid power. It is capable of coping with almost any weather without needing more energy than it generates by itself. It uses environmentally sound materials, gains heat from renewable sources, and offers green solutions for water use and waste generation.

The house uses a flat-pack timber-frame kit based on the concept of the timber-framed houses that were built in Britain about 1,000 years ago. The timber frame is then laminated and built in a box shape formed by posts and beams on a low-carbon concrete foundation. Heavyweight eco concrete panels manufactured using a high level of recycled aggregate content rest on the solid timber beams. These are an energy-efficient alternative to domestic plasterboard and give the house its "thermal mass" that absorbs and releases heat slowly.”

when i do wudu i try to combine them with my showers so i save water. I also fill a bowl up and use that water to do wudu.

I try and turn all the lights off when theres no one in the room. (no one in my house agrees with this).

I also need to do the bowl thing when i shave..i waste to much water every day.

I converted Mom to green cleaning.

My mom bought Clorox Green Works and is loving it. She says she plans on making the switch to it. She also started emailing me links about all natural make-ups.

That's really good. I saw on Myth Busters an episode about something related - whether leaving lights on can actually save more energy (because turning them on causes a power consumption spike). They found that you'll save energy by leaving the lights on only if you step out for a second or two at most (with incandescents) and just a few seconds more with fluorescents.

Well if its a two second thing then i'll leave em on, but anything over 2 mins i'll turn them off. I saw that episode too.

To save even more energy i've taken to wearing sweaters in the house and leaving the thermostat at 60 rather than 70.

We have a bar across the ceiling of our laundry room so I dry all my good clothes on hangers, only towels and pj's go in the dryer.

also you can handwash delicate items/sweaters instead of dry cleaning and then just dry it flat. (in dry cleaning it's not a "dry" process, the clothes are washed with a bunch of others belonging to other people in a machine with a chemical solution and leftover chemical waste has to be dumped. The only thing I get dry cleaned are winter coats and velvet pants b/c the pile gets crushed if I wash it myself.

i think countries like saudi arabia and the UAE need to invest their billions of dollars in alternative energy and efficient cars instead of their oil (which btw saudi arabia will run out in 10 years). that way, when they do run out of it, they have something useful to offer to the world and at the same time, making a ton of money off of it because there will be global demand.

Ways To Protect Our Air

-Ask your employer to consider flexible work schedules or telecommuting.
-Recycle printer cartridges.
-Shut off electrical equipment in the evening when you leave work.
-Report smoking vehicles to your local air agency.
-Don't use your wood stove or fireplace when air quality is poor.
-Avoid slow-burning, smoldering fires. They produce the largest amount of pollution.
-Burn seasoned wood - it burns cleaner than green wood.
-Use solar power for home and water heating.
-Use low-VOC or water-based paints, stains, finishes and paint strippers.
-Purchase radial tires and keep them properly inflated for your vehicle.
-Paint with brushes or rollers instead of using spray paints to minimize harmful emissions.
-Ignite charcoal barbecues with an electric probe or other alternative to lighter fluid.
-If you use a wood stove, use one sold after 1990. They are required to meet federal emissions standards and are more efficient and cleaner burning.
-Walk or ride your bike instead of driving, whenever possible.
-Join a carpool or vanpool to get to work.
