Re: Dubai - its wonders and limitations
This is a rare video of Dubai from 1995. This video shows there were almost no tall buidlings in dubai just 13 years ago. Dubai was still very modern but with no tall buildings YouTube - DXB_Hyatt Hotel Dubai

I find all the "development" shown in the picture to be just plain ugly. I absolutely hate modern architecture. And I fail to see any beauty in talls buildings.

Re: Dubai - its wonders and limitations
Woo-hoo, Dubai is home to a bunch of superlatives. They have the first, biggest, most expensive everything. I still don't see what the hype is about.
When I go overseas, I ditch the malls and the American franchises, and eat me some yummy shawarmas from the street corner of the souq and hit up the oldest parts of the city. Mountains, beaches, old palaces....not fake islands and new buildings. I think it's hilarious when my cousins overseas drag me to the KFC or Baskin Robbins in Yemen when I live in the land of fast food and chains. I go overseas to experience culture and old, natural beauty, and the UAE is losing all that.
There are sooo many countries I'd rather go to before I went to the UAE, even though I have a bunch of aunts and uncles there.

Re: Dubai - its wonders and limitations
check out the sick new skyscraper that will soon be built in Dubai. This projection is actually shorter by 200 meters than the most recent plan for the tower. Its called Al-Burj
its almost 3 times the height of the Empire State Building

yeah i agree, i went to dubai and i didn't really find it all special. somethings were nice but problem with modern things is that you get bored with them very quickly. i would much rather go to oman or yemen or even some parts of saudi arabia which have amazing natural beauty.

Re: Dubai - its wonders and limitations
Bahrain is pretty cool. I have a friend who's always going back and forth and some of the pics are awesome.
