It has nothing to do with Dubai. It bothers me when people jump on the bandwagon and start throwing around claims without proper due diligence. Its just so easy to hate on Dubai and that's why you're doing it, really.

It would go aganist the intrest of the Development companies to reveal how strongly their impacting the envrionment in a negative way. So of course on their own sites and industry assocation sites they wouldnt relay 100% accurate truth

There are regulatory controls and laws that the government applies, and all development companies big or small, must be in compliance. There is third party verification and sustained environmental monitoring, and heavy fines in the event of non-compliance, and in case of repeated violations, they can even be stripped of their licenses. If the trade associations were lying and covering up for members' misdeeds, they would also bear heavy consequences.

In other words, the cost of negligence would be too high to bear.

It's different if they need it, but the labels are interesting.. "first largest, second largest, etc" Just build if you need it, but the competing factors changes the feel...

I agree. Maybe Algiers should build their mosque with the fourth largest minaret. That way they won't look like they're competing.

yupyup i def see what u mean. when i was reading up on this, MANY companies from all over the world (germany, egypt, korea, syria, spain, etc) were trying to outbid each other to build this project, its a resume thing i guess... "hey look at our company, we built the third largest mosque in Algeria, etc".

Well, if they need a bridge, that's great.
Tentacle Towers are ugly though.

Hmm, apparently a guy from Abu Dhabi paid a ridiculous amount of money to pay a registration plate with only the number 1 on it

The only think i liked about Dubai was the water theme park, Wild Wadi. It's good for people who like shopping but not really into that myself. The amount of gold there is in one window in the Gold Souq is frightening Some parts still seem like an industrial area and the Burj al Arab isn't as good as people think. Although it does light up and change colours in the night time. The only thing i liked was Jumeira beach, nice water. The artificial islands check another scary box.

That's what a some guy randomly asked me yesterday, "Are you from the country that placed bids on that multi-million dollar plate? Israel? Yeah, are you Isreali?"

You know, I keep hearing different things... are there like nice parts and not so nice parts? I see the nice parts on tv, but from people I know living over there, they say there are open sewers and things.

Dubai is way over rated. I went there, its nice and all but you cant really compare natural beauty this exists in North America and Europe to artificial beauty that is dubai. In other words Dubai is a fake city with no soul. The only thing I liked there was the shopping thats about it.
