All around the world they have ugly buildings and cars that never make it past the conceptual / model phase.

FYI - the development companies in Dubai, including the biggest heavyweights, are extremely conscious about the environment. They really take a lotta steps to ensure as minimal disruption as possible. You can read about it on their own sites and industry association websites as well.

and why does it bother people when someone in any capacity says something negative about dubai in any manner?
It would go aganist the intrest of the Development companies to reveal how strongly their impacting the envrionment in a negative way. So of course on their own sites and industry assocation sites they wouldnt relay 100% accurate truth
