So abbreviations of names- your thoughts.

As salaam u alaikum,

Whats your opinion on abbreviated names. I do not mind using nicknames however i do not like abbreviating Muhammed as Mo. I have been caught doing it sometimes when others are but I think it is disrespecting and not because it is the Prophets name (saw) but because the Meaning behind it is changed and that is what relates to the Prophet (saw).

I also hate it when people give their nick names when asked their name! If you say your full name to begin with and then tell people your pet name then that is fine as it gives the caller the choice but i HAte it when your like;

Me: Salaam, sory whats your name
Mumtaz: Walaikum as salaam, o sorry its TAZ

i dont like it anymore tho so i've been encouraging people to call me by my real name..it's working but slowly

Every one of my friends since like i was 10 has called me "saf" my colleagues call me "saffy" (cuz they think its cute ) but I haven't had any problems with it...I don't mind shortening names so long it isn't deogatory. As for introducing myself, if its a friend of a friend i'm introduced as saf, otherwise its safiyyah =)

Uh, hate to be a stickler for details, but that's not an abbreviation. That's an acronym.

or you could do what Jamroll bhai does and just completey change your name into a food of your choice
