The Dubai Towers Dubai look like tentacles!

And I on the Abraj AlBait Towers, that is down right sacreligious.

And the Chicago Spire looks too much like a wang.

I thought the Dubai Towers Dubai looked like Jello or something

With the Abraj Al Bait towers, I think they shouldn't be that close to the Kabba, but I like the idea. It will have the world's largest prayer room and it can house thousands of people for Hajj and Ummrah.

I personally think the Chicago Spire looks like the world's largest drillbit.

Some of you guys have already seen this pic on my facebook album...no I didn't take it:

The biggest part isn't even built yet (compare it to wolfn's pic). To get a idea of how tall it is so far, look at this video from the top of one of the buildings: YouTube - the bigest tower in the World-Makkah

What irritates me about this building is the fact that theres a huge shopping mall, bowling alley, and other entertainment things right next to the Kabaa. According to them, its part of the haram, which means you can pray inside the building and get rewards of praying at the haram (because its attached). Well, if thats true, Starbucks has successfully established a store right in the Haram.

this was a huge image, so I resized it to make it fit here...

All this reminds me of this hadith:

"The Hour will not be established—till the people compete with one another in constructing high buildings." (Bukhari)

That's just wrong.

They shouldn't allow any buildings taller than the minarets within a mile or so of the haram.

Can you guys ever have a discussion about the Haram-Shareef and its expansion without getting into all this emotional hyperbole?

Shopping malls and entertainment venues have always been a part of Makkah, and the city itself was founded as a trade way-station.

And no, Starbucks did NOT establish a store right in the Haram, its the Al-Shaya Group that owns the license to the Starbucks brand in the region and they are the ones that opened up the shop. And seeing how commercial activity is strictly forbidden inside the masaajid, I really doubt that the floor of the Starbucks cafe is also part of the haram shareef.

Even though its making you all go crazy, the Abraj Al-Bait is actually one of the coolest looking projects mentioned here. I think those wavy ones look pretty stupid, i dont know if thats an actual project or just a proposed one but i hope its the latter. And the USA needs more skyscrapers

Why? There's plenty of land in the US. They should build horizontally first.

And before we know it, we're out of farmland, national forests, etc.

My idea is this:
1) Fix rundown cities and make them better, clean them up, etc (ex: Detroit).
2) Build up instead of horizontaly (did I spell that right?), and that will save more space. A skyscraper the size of the Burj Dubai can fit as many people as a small city in the land area of like half a mall. Skysrapers are really impressive ideas

Well, that's basically it.
