when i was growing up and lived with my parents, it was a family rule that we always had to eat together. we would get yelled at if we didn't join the family when it was time to eat. looking back now, i would say it's a good rule and want my family to do the same insha'Allah.

my hubby and i eat together most times now too.

there are actually hadith and other religious scholars who have commented on this topic:

Sufyan al-Thawri said: 'I have heard that God and His angels bless a family that eats together.'

Eat together and not separately, for the blessings is associated with the company. (Ibn Majah).

my parents made the whole family eat together... even if you didnt want to eat, you had to stay at the table and keep everyone else company.....

i live with my two younger sisters. i would slaughter them if they didn't sit down to eat at the same time (because i spend so much time making nice, creative, exotic meals). That is, of course, including days when they're at college/university. I always wait for them to come home, although I have already sneakily had a little to eat (owing to the fact that i get home way before them). the good thing about this set-up is that whilst i'm cooking the kitchen always ends up looking like a storm has hit it and after we've all eaten, i put my feet up and switch on the telly, whilst my two house-trained elves clean up for me. all the cleaning up chores belong to them.

We never eat alone. We did back at Sri lanka though. Every man for himself is the rule here.

I might go for a bike ride before lunch maybe

No, not really. It's hard to coordinate all the schedules, and I tend to eat earlier than the others.

The food gets ready for when my dad is home, we can either eat when he comes home or later with my nan or anyone else who is left. On weekends mum makes us eat together apart from nan she eats later because of medication. I normally eat lunch with bro, hes a good "creator of edible things"
