I mean I use it on youtube all the time because of their whole anti-islam week, using the f word then islam,etc etc. THose losers need to get a life and yes, I'll call them white trash cuz I know they hate it, white trash.

I think you're asking if it's considered derogatory towards an entire ethnicity. Because obviously you're trying to be derogatory towards a specific person if you're calling them trash... the issue is whether or not it's a racial slur.

yeah. calling them "trailer trash" is not a racial slur - you're referring to their character / personality / dress ... but calling them "white trash" probably is a racial slur.

I've never heard anybody black being called "trailer trash" and I think the term is offensive on two counts: race and class (or maybe just class, you could argue).

It's a derogatory term, but I don't think it's necessarily a racial slur. Nobody directs it toward all white people. Actual racial slurs (like the N word) are usually aimed towards everyone in that ethnicity as an attempt to repress their societal presence. But like a derogatory comment, it does create an inferiority complex, but it's not directed toward everyone in the race.

I always thought the term was not invented by minorities looking for a good comeback, but rather by some whites themselves who wanted to dissociate themselves from the whites they saw as embarrassing. so from what i've seen is that most whites are not offended by the term because they don't see themselves as part of the group being insulted. I could see it being derogatory though to those with southern roots.

and yeah calling somebody stupid or a moron is the same thing because the issue is that your putting someone down and not looking down on them.

It is an offensive term as it only refers to one ethnicity and as Sister Timbit pointed out clearly isolates those stuck in the vicious cycle of trailer-living (it may sound funny but have you ever thought of what it's like living in a trailer?)

Yes, some trailer-living people do act really ignorant but then so some ghetto folk and Desi people from the poorer pindh's.. trailer trash is offensive and I can't be bothered going into it anymore.. me tired!
