Assalaam Alikum.

Well, as the title of the thread suggests, what are some things converts/reverts do? I'll start:


You know you're a convert when:

1) You can't pronounce half of your friend's names, and you can barely pronounce your Muslim name

2) You feel embarrassed when you see 5 year olds at the Masjid who know more of the Qu'ran than you do

3) You can't wait for Jehovah's Witnesses to come to your door so you can tell them that you're Muslim

4) You look forward to performing salaat in public

You have at least one non-Muslim acquaintance that thinks it’s funny to make jokes about terrorists to you all the time

You’ve given up alcohol, but now you’re a caffeine addict because you go to coffee shops with all your new Muslim friends instead of the pub

Your parents think you’ve gone nuts and are being influenced by some weird cult

constantly checking to see if the beard is fist length(it's almost there but only if I pull it to get the curls out)

You wonder "how could anyone get their tongues around all of those "L" sounds"

what in the world is a madhab?

your still trying to figure out how to celebrate the Eids, (years later)

cheat sheets on the floor for when you are praying...that are changed depending on the prayer

You cannot master the sit on your foot thing in salaat.

when you feel this great contentment about the world around you and especially you that you've made the right decision by accepting islam.

You go to your newly found Muslim friends house and wonder why they have a teapot or watering can in the bathroom.

You're taller than all of your new friends (i guess that only applies to the White and Black converts)

YOu have worn a thobe or kufi thinking you were the cool Muslim kid only to relaise not a lot of Muslims your age wear them..not even at Jum'ah...doh

There are tall Muslims who aren't converts. Arabs and Africans are generally around the same height as whites and blacks.

Not even for Eid prayers. I wear a suit and tie to prayers as my father did, who always says that we should dress our best for Eid prayer. My girl was shocked to find out that American-born Muslims wear a suit and tie because in Indonesia they wear a simple shirt and a guy type skirt called a sarong.
