I just saw this now so sorry for the late reply..your're right it does harbor ignorance.

You know you're a convert when you try to listen to nasheeds in a language you don't understand.

Most Nasheeds are in Arabic, nmost Muslims don't speak Arabic so i don't think its a convert thing. There a lot of Nasheeds in different languages, Dawood Wharnsbys stuff is in English.

I didn't take shahada in a cami. I know what you mean now, a lot of Arab brothers use the 3 hug system. The 3 hug and kiss with each hug too.

This year was the hardest because I went to a Moroccan brunch and each person seemed to up the ante and add a kiss.

Asalamu Alaikum,

I was at an All-saudi school for 2 years,and believe me, I never got the 3 kiss system right. Apparently its a different number of kisses according to how close or how much affection they have for you.(atleast in saudi)

So sometimes I would give the energetic 4 kisses to a stranger and their expression would be SO confused! And other times, I'd give a lazy 2 kiss for people who I see every day but who expected the special 4 kisses.

Its an art, that takes many many years under the greatest masters to learn.
