Kikar: Why did I think you were a haafiz and you lead tarawih somewhere?
Gangstas pray 20, btw.

Oh, I almost forgot: new scramble intersection at Yonge and Dundas. First one in the city! All the cars stop and you can cross in whichever direction you want... even diagonally! It caused some confusion at first. But yeah, they're planning on getting them in more locations (Yonge/Bloor and Bay/Bloor, last I heard). How exciting. I love this move towards making a more pedestrian-friendly downtown.

Secondly, new at Dundas Station: you can see when the train will arrive. I don't see the point, 'cause it's never more than a few minutes anyway, but okay, people get impatient, I guess. They're gonna have this at every subway platform in every TTC station. Yay.

Also, I just remembered how long my commute is. It takes me an hour and 15-20 minutes to get to school on the TTC (surface routes or subway/RT) Yes, I practically live on the bus. If I went to St. George, I'd get there in like 30 minutes. Serves me right for not transferring.

I'm not feeling UTM. Seriously thinking of changing schools now. It's not just cause of the grades, its cause of the registrar, management, profs, and generally speaking people. Nothing is working in my favour...I just dont know why?? any advice?

What year are you in? Program? Management, right?
Didn't you change schools once already?

I love Ramadan too.
I miss praying tarawih at Markham Masjid. Just not feeling it over here; I'd rather pray by myself.

UTSC MSA is great though. There's really a sense of community, especially in Ramadan. So yeah... Monday is when school starts!

So what year are you in? What classes have you taken then? What was your major before?

You can't take upper-year courses without the core requirements. So how come you didn't take those pre-reqs this year?
Are you officially enrolled in the Management program? Like, is it your ROSI subject post or are you just pre-Management? Do you have any Management credits? Like Econ. maybe?

See, you need at least 7 full-credits to have a major in anything, so I mean... you can easily do that in 3 semesters. You need to get into the first-year courses though and get them over with before you can take any senior-level courses.

EDIT: They do not discriminate against students based on how they're paying their fees, really. They don't ask that you pay your full tuition right away. All they ask is that you pay your minimum fee on time. If you don't do that, you get dropped from your classes, but they can put you back in them very easily (you have to pay another fee, of course, haha). Anddddd the UTM deadline is later than any other campus. I think what you're saying is that you didn't choose your courses on time.

EDIT2: Lemme know if you need any help figuring it out. I know my way around U of T policies.

Alright, dude.

Just offering 'cause I read your post in another thread about how you might not go back to school this fall. And really, that's your choice and it's one thing if you can't go back 'cause of other obligations (your work and whatnot), but if it's 'cause you're frustrated that you're having a hard time registering, then... well, that's not really a reason.

There's a lot of red tape, but that's to be expected; it's a large institution and policies are in place for a reason. If you miss a deadline, there's nobody else to blame. But the good news is that there are always ways around registration difficulties. Minimum payment is really only 10% of your tuition and a seeming shortage of 700 dollars is not a reason for you to skip out on school entirely this semester. And you can always have profs sign you into classes that're full.

Your particular situation seems different/difficult, but if you really want the degree, then you should try your best to get in the classes you need this semester and work towards graduation, you know? Otherwise, you're just wasting your time and you've been in school for a while now.

Wassalam.

I love UTM. The atmosphere is amazing, and for the most part, people are really helpful and not-so competitive like the people at St. George. I like how it's actually possible to get to know your professor due to the small classes, and how could you not hate the fact that our longest possible walk for classes is from South to North building, or vice versa?

As for the MSA, I didn't get involved first year. Seems a little cliquey.. I've been harassed by some MSA sisters to attend events and whatnot. They're kind of pushy, and make you feel like you'll die if you don't go to an event... but despite that they seem like nice people Not sure how the MSA brothers are.

Timbit seems to have you covered registrar-wise! Not sure what kind of advice you're looking for exactly but if you want to talk to UTM, then just hollaaa.

I just read your mgm101 bit. There's still space in the early lecture, and the other lecture has a tiny waitlist. inshaAllah you'll get in. Oh and once you do, buy my mgm101 textbook.

Are you sure 100% that the minimum payment for registration is 10%??

I've been told by this senior lady at the registrat its 65% of the total fees. JEEZ...Cuz if that were the case, I would have registered last week...can you post a link to U of T's policy that states its 10%??

I did part-time studies last year and ended up dropping one course just a day after the deadline, I was charged 25% ($115) of the course fee. Which is not a big deal. But the school charged me incidental fees for a full-time student that amount to $1050 just because of that course my course load went up to 3.0.

So I spoke to the registrar and later wrote them a letter explaining the situation, she tells me she'll sort it out...a month later I get a 30% refund of the fees....I was like WTH???

So I called them 23432 times. Most people working there dont have a clue of what they're doing. So I went to the registrar *at least* four different times. The first two times the lady at the financial dept was on vacation...so I spoke to another person in the dept who couldn't answer ANY of my concerns. Infact none of the people I had spoken in that dept seemed to have a clue. She told me that I have to see the lady I was dealing with in order to sort out the issue. The third time I went I'm told the lady at the financial dept wasn't seeing any people that day. So I went last week and I was told the *same* thing. Their *scheduled* to see people that day, though. That really pissed me off..so i tell the CSR to let me speak to the head registrar. As soon as i said this, she goes in and brings that lady out instead of the head registrar. That financial advisor comes out and tells me that I have to pay *the past due balance + 65% of the course fees for 08/09 sessions in order to register or I'll be removed from the courses and have my account put on hold.

I had saved up enough money to register for school this fall, but not the money that the school actually owes me, which is more than $800.

I wrote another letter to the head registrar...the financial adviser tells me she cant refund the money for another month or so and there's no gauranttee that i'll get it. ARGHH!

So I requested that i speak to the head registrar. The CSR had told me earlier the registrar isn't in office, and then a few mins later Financial advisor tells me she is but i cant see her....WTH!!!

I couldn't spend anymore time with her cuz I had to go to work. And I didn't wanna waste anymore time on that stubborn witch either...

Two days later I got removed from all of my courses and now my account is on hold until i pay the past due balance. If I register now I'll be put on the waiting list for mgm101...and all other good polsci/geo/ and other second year courses...Arghhh...

I'd take time off of work to go to the registrar. I have an extremely busy schedule. I work at least 6 days/week on average. I couldn't even take a vacation this summer...
