Re: The Toronto Crew
السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته
This week, a Muslim family in Ottawa lost their home in a fire. There were 7 children in the family, and as the mother tried to round them up to escape, the youngest, Khalid Ali, got confused and ran in the opposite direction. Baby Khalid did not make it out of the fire, he was 2 and a half years old. The father was at work, and checked in on his family that evening before the fire. This family has nothing left. They escaped with the clothing on their backs. Please donate anything you can for this family. The mother is in shock and is not able to speak or respond when spoken to. The father is trying to be strong for his 6 children.
If you live in Canada - you have the following (fastest) options:
1) Depositing through TD Bank: Account number 5215301, TD bank branch 0229 - under the Khalid Ali Family Fund
OR
2) Donating via the paypal account set up by Qabeelat Nurayn
If you live outside Canada, you have the following options:
1) Write a cheque payable to Carlington Community & Health Services and mail it to the following address:
Carlington Community & Health Services
900 Merivale Road
Ottawa, ON

OR
2) Donate via paypal account by visiting this site, set up by Qabeelat Nurayn

Re: The Toronto Crew
yayy I'm going to Montreal and Quebec city over the long weekend!
I'm so shaken up right now..I left some oil on the stove and when i came back in the kitchen 5 minutes later there were flames (pretty high) so I moved the frying pan and called 911. the fire died out on its own. I told the fire dept it was under control but they insisted on coming down..two trucks! I was so embarrassed. I hope I dont get charged..Alhumdulillah nothing serious happened. whew.

Re: The Toronto Crew
TdotGirl: Ah, that is scary. Alhamdulillah, you're okay.
I had an embarrassing moment like that with the Town of Markham's fire department when my mom and aunt made a bonfire in the backyard (don't ask). My poor dad... he came home to see two ambulances and three firetrucks and a whole bunch of cops. He must've thought something really bad had happened. But he just explained the whole thing to them and then came in like " What did you guys do?!" Looking back, it was pretty funny how the firefighters were all like "No fires in the Town of Markham."
MIST on Sunday and ISNA Canada the Sunday after, InshaAllah (I'll only be there on the Sunday, I mean)... hope to see some of you there. Ahem... IbnM.

Israel's ambassador says he is concerned that the growing number of Muslim Canadians might cause a shift in this country's Middle East policy.

I'm surprised muslim/arab organizations didn't respond to the fear mongering. Though, I hope the ambassador's fears do come true inshallah.

Re: The Toronto Crew
That was a while ago, Bravo, and I remember reading an article by Haroon Siddiqui which addressed it quite succinctly (he's always the voice of reason). Also some letters in the Star about it, so yeah... it definitely didn't go unremarked.

Re: The Toronto Crew
timbit...!!! you're back! I miss you.
Montreal was alright...786 branch is wayy better over there..great food. We went to several souvenir shops in old montreal. One was owned by these turkish/arab looking folks..the teenage son of the shop keeper started to follow us around..First I thought that was just me, but then my hubby told me he was following us to keep an eye on the no gooder pakis. I felt so humiliated, I wanted to go back to the store and: but the hubby is good at steering me away from trouble.
Quebec was really nice...we got a parking ticket..in french, the signs were so misleading. I refuse to pay it. the russian players were staying at our hotel..The funny thing is they were walking around the lobby with Gold medals dangling from their necks..way to be humble guys.
the funnier part was russian fans were roaming around drunk singing and celebrating. They were so wasted...and graffitied some of the signs in old quebec.
Hoping to go to ISNA..iA see you guys there.
My fam went to the qirat event at foundation...they really enjoyed JJ.
