I pay in advance and I get charged if I overuse.
And if I refuse to pay in advance, then they count it as an unpaid bill and charge me a late fee.

I did not sign up for this and it was not always like this. But they lie and say it was and I must have never noticed before.

I don't work for Fido, never have so I can't speak about their plans so I don't know how you got onto that plan if you never signed up for it. Are you on a contract as well? If so, they can tell you when it started and maybe jog your memory that way. And if the contract has ended and now you're on month-to-month billing, then call them and find out what other plans they have. Most consumer users of Fido that I know will never leave Fido because of their per-second billing increments.

overage means consumption that is above and beyond what the plan has stated. So for example if the plan says you have 1200 minutes per month included in your price, then fine. If one month you use 1273 minutes, then those 73 minutes of overage are going to be charged at a higher rate.

They told me that it's always been that way. It hasn't.

And they said that it's like that with every service provider. So I just wanted to ask you guys to determine the veracity of that.

My contract is this close to ending, so I don't think I'm gonna renew it. I'm happy with the plan, but I happen to know for a fact that I can get the exact same plan with Rogers.
And I hardly ever overuse and have unlimited incoming, so the per-second billing doesn't mean a thing to me. The crappy, crappy customer service has turned me off Fido forever.

Yeah, its not like that with every carrier. I get a monthly bill and pay it after the usage. So does most everyone else.

Does anybody here use Rogers as a cell phone service provider?
Do they charge you in advance?? Like, you have a plan... do you have to pay the monthly charges a month in advance?

Rogers

Initially I had signed three years contract with them, hated their service all together...My first three months were wonderful, (unlimited incoming/texts etc)then after than, I' realized I was being ripped off*; six months into the contract, fewer mintues (150 shared weekday minutes since it was a family plan) and had to pay for the incoming/sms/uploading pictures/weeknights too except the weekends. My monthly bills would much higher than expected, when I enquired into I was told my incomings calls are not free nomatter what whereas the first salesman told me otherwise when I first signed up.

Then I went with the pay as you go again with Rogers and they charge by minutes, so I end up paying $30+ monthly for pre-paid, so this is not working out either..my friends are suggesting Fido? they have and they love it

And I used to too, up until this month. Yet they insist that I've always been paying the monthly charges beforehand. Liars.

the_only_one: Hmmmm. Well, I guess everybody has a different experience. But I'm sick of Fido now, so I'm going to go with Rogers to see the difference.

Rogers and Fido have the same call centers so I doubt you'll see any difference in service.

You weren't exactly being ripped off.

All carriers are very generous for the first few months when you sign up because later they use the calling pattern + volume from those first few months to convince you to sign up for more appropriate plans. Its a good way for you also to judge yourself, how much you're really blabbing on the phone and how much you really needed it for.

If anyone ripped you off in this case, it was probably the sales agent, he was being unethical and didn't disclose all the costs and terms upfront.

So if and whenever you get a consumer salesperson on the phone or even in-person at a mall kiosk, drill them deep so that you know what you're getting into.

Yeah, they kept the same plans that Fido had, to keep the same base.

You probably dont know how much they were charging me for the amt of minutes I had. $60 for both phones+ $6.95 for each phone + taxes...and did I mention the extra charge for photos etc.

G, Ibn I dont babble on the phone, I was always discussing important matters with friends and family you know, and I have a lot of family members who live in far far away land so I had to keep in touch with them... realistically, even if someone is not social(as I consider myself to be , 250 shared minutes per month is NOTHING for two active individuals!).

Actually, I probably do know - having worked at Bell for five years and keeping tabs on competitors through our CI division.

The $60 for both phones, the sys.ac. fee of 6.95, taxes, and charges for photos are all standard. I pay over $150 each month for my one single phone, btw.

Look, I'm not going to give you false hopes. It was your fault because he wasn't holding a gun to your head and going all Godfather on you was he? saying either your brains or your signature would be on the paper?

The vast majority of sales are made based on emotion and that's why women are such huge suckers for the vast majority of sales pitches. Keep a clear head, read the fine print, and don't let yourself get lulled into a euphoric state by some cheesy emotional sales blurb.

I even tell the girls and women that I know, that when they're dealing with a salesperson, that they should literally, with the gesture of their hand as well as words, tell the salesperson that they absolutely do not want to hear words like "this is great!" "latest and greatest" "its perfect for you" "oh you look so beautiful in it!!" etc etc - just cut the crap and get the details about pricing, technical specs if applicable, and so on, and then get a third opinion from someone who has no vested interest at all in how much money you are spending on buying this appliance or that piece of clothing, etc.

Its an old myth buddy which I guess is still lingering around your head that women are easily fooled by mechanics and salesmen! I had taken the brochure with me for the plan I wanted(I had done pre-researched) and consult my friends who worked in the sales. Looking back, the only problem I see now is, when I looked at the different package comparison, I saw the intial three month goodies and ignored the long term story after the first three months.

girls rule, boys drool.

Remorse not for myself, but for Big cooperations like Rogers who did not take any action when I filed my complaint against the salesman. They should have customer satisfaction deals like Walmart/Sears, hence, customers like myself wouldn't hesitate to come back to them. I don't think they've too many loyal customers, except those who are tried with bell for whatever reason!

also as far I know, rogers isnt doing too well in the market, a couple years ago, CBC showed some cases where consumers had filed compliants against Rogers ..and I shud be one f them...
