Feminists do tend to look down on stay at home moms, thats undeniable. And it spread from just being a view of the hardcore feminists to being a prevalent idea in our culture. The view that being a "housewife" means throwing away your life and your potential, that housewives are less intellectual than other women, that they're in an unequal or oppressive relationship with their husbands and their children, and so on.

I remember i mentioned once on this forum that my sister had a full scholarship to law school then decided to quit to take care of her kids. Some girl immediately made some comment along the lines of "awww how sad", instantly assuming that a woman who leaves the field of law to stay at home is going downwards. In reality, it wasnt sad at all, my sister actually made the decision against the wishes of her husband and my dad, and has always been happy with it.. plus her kids are all little geniuses mA.

See that's silly and comes from the false reaffirmation that we live in a rational society. Someone who cares more about the upbringing of their children than their career is amazing and should be honoured not criticised. The mothers/fathers who work (as in take their children to work with them) and do the whole parenting thing are even more amazing
