Family Chilling in My Bedroom and Chatting

[Parents are talking about the grocery bill and why the chicken was so expensive in Urdu and Punjabi]

Sister to Me: Dad told me that our family is descended from Sikh.

Me: Thats just a myth. Most Punjabis before Islam were actually Buddhist and they assisted the Arab invaders in their conquest of India because they were oppressed by Hindus.

Dad: No, our ancestors were Sikhs.

Me: You yourself told me that our male lineage came from Bukhara and Samarkand and our maternal lineage is from Ferghana (all of these locations are currently in Uzbekistan)

Dad: No, dadi-ama (grandmother) is Sikh.

Me: How is that even possible when her Muslim family lineage preceded the creation of Sikhism?

Dad: We're jhatt.

Me: Most Jhatts are descendants from Buddhists, not Sikhs.

Mom: Jhatts are the stupidest people on earth! They're lazy and they have no brains! They're hard-headed and stubborn!

Dad: Why'd you spend so much money on the chicken!?

Mom: Don't tell me how to get grocery!

Dad: I wouldn't tell you how to get grocery if you knew how to get grocery!

[continue bickering in Punjabi]

Sister: (rolls eyes) Punjabis!

Me: Don't look at me yo, I'm adopted.

Meh, I was trying to convey the boisterousness and argumentative nature of the culture, but its much easier to do so through audio than text.

whatever, the men are worse..driving with one leg up on the dashboard and occassionally napping because the roads are straight

Mr.z and i were driving to the mall when we saw a truck selling watermellons to the right of the highway...

me: ooo watermelons, shall we get some?
mr: yeah! :drives across the highway, car beeps:
me: oh.my.God.
mr: what???
me: We nearly died.
mr: no, look because (starts explaining why we didnt nearly die with his hands OFF THE WHEEL)
me: wTH?!?! Forget the watermelons!
mr: why are you so scared today? So we nearly get killed for a watermelon that we don't get?

*sigh*
