Lolab (JAMMU AND KASHMIR): In Lolab, a border town in Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir, a poor solitary Hindu family is celebrating Diwali, courtesy some contributions from Muslim neighbours.
An old Hindu widow, fondly called Rita ji by villagers, is lighting candles with Muslim children for the first time in 40 years. It's the only Hindu family in the entire Lolab valley after ten Kashmiri pandit families fled during the period of militancy in 1990.
However, this Diwali is not going to be a dark one for Rita and her son Rinku as they have got candles and crackers from their Muslim neighbours.
A resident, Ghulam Rasool says, “We contributed the money so that they could celebrate Diwali. We always pool money for them whenever they are distressed.''
Rita, a Bengali woman, was married to a Kashmiri pandit more than 40 years ago. After her husband died, she brought up her two daughters — who are now married — and son Rinku with great difficulty.
She’s struggled to make ends meet but this Diwali she does not want to reminisce about the past.
She says, “We have no money. The government keeps promising us."
Her son, Rinku says, “I wanted to buy the candles myself but could not.”
Kashmiriyat, the way of life in the Valley, has remained intact despite Hindus fleeing during the height of militancy. Even if such occasions are rare, with this act of generosity, the centuries old Hindu-Muslim bond has passed the litmus test.

Awww....
Got5....I was hoping you would do the whole, Muslims shouldn't be acting like hindu's speech...
Guess Its up to me eh?
Celebrating the Hindu Holydays is Haram.
Its nice to care about non-muslims but you don't go "HAPPY DIWALI! Yaay!"
and burn candles with them....
Thats all I got for now...

maybe, but there's nothing wrong with wishing someone else a happy holiday, if its their holiday. how many of us always wish someone who is a christian merry christmas when its thier holiday? i mean they say it to me, cuz its thier holiday, im not going to be rude and not say it back. its for them, not me. but they are not celebrating the holiday with them. according to the report, the people were very poor and couldnt afford candles, so the village, made up of mostly muslims, got together and pooled thier money so they could buy them candles for thier holiday. now they are lighting candles, and while that isnt haram in itself, they are lighting with them. so thats a border line issue there.
in fact just tonight i was in your fav place, ghareeb nawaz, eating biryani, and they were selling sheer korma for all the hindus celebrating diwali, even though the place is owned by religious muslims.

Sayyidna Abu Talha (Radhiyallaahu Ánhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallaaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said, "Angels do not enter a house wherein there is a dog or an animate picture. (Sahih Bukhari Hadith no. 2986)
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas (Radhiyallaahu Ánhuma) reports from Sayyidna Maimoona (Radhiyallaahu Ánha) that once Rasulullah (Sallallaaahu Álayhi Wasallam) became sad; and said that Jibra'eel (Álayhis Salaam) promised to meet him at night but did not turn up. "By Allah what has kept him back," said the Prophet (Sallallaaahu Álayhi Wasallam). Then he realised a puppy was under his bed. He ordered that the puppy be removed and the area be sprinkled with water. In the afternoon when Jibra'eel (Álayhi Salaam) came, Rasulullah (Sallallaaahu Álayhi Wasallam) enquired as to the delay. Jibra'eel (Álayhi
Salaam) said that we, the group of Angels do not enter a house wherein there is a dog or pictures. (Sahih Muslim Hadith no.3928)

Re: Muslim friends make Diwali bright for Hindu family
I just wanted to ask a quick question.
What if you have Hindu friends and they are holding a big Diwali party and you are invited and you go. Would that be classed as celebrating Diwali with them or just going for the food and atmosphere and friends?

That shows your youthful impetulence there buddy. Touching dogs is not a Haraam action its will make you najas for Salat but its not Haraam. Becareful with the label of Haraam as naming something that clearly isn't can make yuou one of the people you despise the most, the kuffar. ALso the Hadith you quoted did not state any of the things you claimed, be careful with quoting things out of context.
How about you put yourself in the place of that community, for a second. They are the only hindu family in the village, surrounded by all those Muslims. The Muslims give them money and make them feel welcome during one of their most celebrated times, they see the good in the Muslims and then convert. If the Muslims acted like you are telling them too, by giving them the money and going on their way, thats not very charitable, its actually more heartless than letting them starve.
