Wouldn't your MIL know then? I thought you read the last 3 Quls.

My Nephew got sick last time we went to India and my aunt had us take nazar off him with a live Kaala Murgee I had to carry it back from the market. I wish I took a picture, but that would probably have resulted in another nazar utaaring process.

Chup karo does mean to assume the state of being chup. That's the way I'm thinking of it, at least and I'm not really understanding why you'd say that chup is a verb.
I'm not.. I'm saying chup karo isn't proper because chup is not a verb. "Chup thiyo" means to assume the state of being chup. "Chup karo" would mean "Do chup." People do say "chup kar," ("chup kar ne") but "chup thi" makes more sense & especially when you start speaking formally ("aein").

Well, she does know, but I don't want to ask her because she'll think I'm really ignorant for not knowing because to her it's sooo super important...

The 3 Quls sounds right... anyone else?

well, they had my sister mention everyone who could have given her son "nazar." and she had to mention her own name too. God knows what else was part of the process

They're really superstitious there. My sis once put her son to sleep and then stepped over him to leave the room. They got mad, and made her go back over the baby backwards or else he will not be able to walk...or something like that.

also, I was showing my nephew a mirror, and they got mad at me. The next day he got a virus and it was my fault. I should have known showing a baby a mirror gives him a virus.

yes because you're not dhorajiwali

there'll always be some people who think you're terrible..you'll never be able to change that..but i'd say do what you want as long as it's not disrespectful

yup, there were definitely people like that in karachi... i heard about the mirror thing, apparently if the baby sees himself in a mirror, he gives himself nazar...

plus youre not supposed to rock a baby's seat if the baby's not in it (like i did that a lot out of habit, but its supposedly bad...) and lots of other things...
