Like in Delhi, it some parts you won't see the RICKSHAW that much, and theres a SUBWAY / Metro system there now.
ya i spent a week in delhi visiting the historical muslim sites. i noticed thier autorickshaws are made up of motorcycles and a carriage. connought place and chandi chowk comes to mind. ever been to kareem's?

Quote:
Bro, you seem the know the places very clearly and seem to know the culture as well. From what I can tell you were born and raised there aswell. Why so yo keep on saying FOBS. Are these Fobs (Fresh on Board Indians Living in USA), are they: "a bunch of jealous backward bufoons, who are too obsessed with caste and class. the sneakiest, dirtiest people i ever came across. begging is a full time profession for them." And they're doing all this in India? The fobs in India are the whites who moved there from here.
lol, are you shocked? i have spent years studying this culture, years upon years. i told you im a fob's worst nightmare, i know everything about you guys, but you know nothing about us. but trust me, i wasnt born and raised in india, i was born in chicago in 1975 one year after my family arrived here, im the youngest of 3. but if you were to add up the time i did spend in india during my travels over a 20 year span, between 1978 - 1998, it could would come out to be one year.

Quote:
Do you think all the beggars and poor people there do it all on purpose? Do you not feel for what they go through because of being poor? Almost every man tries to work there, and begging is a last resort. They live in those dirty situations because they don't have a choice, the government in India is so corrupt that that municipality doesn't do anything. In India theres two groups, the RICH and the POOR, there are middle class, but theres a huge gap, and the gap is closing quickly.
well that gap aint closing really. in fact my fob cousins told me that now even people in the old city of hyd are now driving cars and earning a decent middle class wage, at least for indian standards. but you misunderstood what i wrote. i meant that even the middle class fobs, act like beggars, they have no sense of self-reliance, and always expect a hand out and everyone else to do everything for them. in othe words, they are just users.

Quote:
- Why do you keep saying 'YOU' people? Are you completely denying the fact you lived there for sometime and were brought up there? While living there all you saw was the negative aspect of life?
- When you were saying "ooh hoo ashique banaya hogaya" were u there for a visit or at that point you hadn't left India?
lol i was there for a visit, i have never lived in india, i have never went to school in india, i didnt wear a uniform made up of a blue shirt and 'knickers' haha, in fact i never wore a uniform to school. and trust me my thick chicago accent definantly shows i have never lived in india. my family has lived in chicago for well over 30 years, my mother first arrived here in 1967, my mamu came here in 1965 and my dad will tell you his fav story that he never stops telling, the great chicago blizzard of 1979, because had never seen so much snow in his life until that point.

Quote:
From what you're telling me, the way you were brought up to me it seems that at an early age you realized you're not an INDIAN and that you were adopted from a foreign family. Because you hate your nationality that much. What do you mean we created the term ABCD.
you guys created it for people like myself who were born and raised in the united states. the irony is now that we, those of born here or grew up here, now outnumber the freshies.

Quote:
When we leave India, were leaving the dirty filthy Lifestyle right? Will you agree that the poor you're talking about, the ones who beg and who cry and who are the dirtiest, MOST likely will not make it to USA or other countries.
oh you will be shocked at some of the people i see coming over here, especially from pakistan punjab, alot of these fobs today dont even speak english.

Agreeing on that, We can determine that most of the FOBS "Fresh on Board" in the US are either wealthy or of the middle class.
that's a myth.

Quote:
India has its own culture, YOU keep on trying to compare it to USA. Sure they are a little behind, if they had to try to become americans, and If India tries to mimic the WEST, then would that make all of them FOBBY? India is a culture in its own, from the gallian, to the mehals to the kheti badi. My dads whole family lives in the village, they are all farmers. Sure when i go there it is dirty, theres a hygiene issue but that's the life of INDIA man. Living here in the west in the "Modern Time" were so occupied with our personal BUSY life, everyones gotta go somewhere, everyone for them selves. People die and their own relatives are too busy with their lives to be there for them. Time goes by way too quickly living here. In India its a different story, you actually feel the earth you can smell the air (not always good ;p) But you feel more free...to me at least. Theres so much underlying culture in India which you can't really tell unless your there, you gotta live life Optimistically. Theres this pazaaz being there.
well culture is a very broad term, so ill make myself specific. i have nothing against the dress, costumes, shalwars things like that. in fact i like it. i have nothing against the food, or the architecture, literature or the arts. paintings etc. the ghazal and the qawal to me represents real culture, not this bollywood crap that is often put out. i grew up listening to all of it, because my parents, my dad especially just absolutly loves ghazals and qawalis and when i was a kid, and was stuck riding around with him in the car, he would stick on his cassetes (this was the 80's btw) of all the qawalis and ghazals especially. i hated it then, but now i see why he enjoys it soo much, because its muslim culture inherited by the mughals. and believe it or not, he used to have 8 track's of these back in the 70's lol, because i remember seeing them around when i was a kid.

Quote:
I know that when I go there I'm going as a foreigner and I know that I have a pocket full money, but believe it or not, I take the rickshaws and the autos and walk and the trains and the beat up buses. I spent my 2007 new years eve on a Bus from Lucknow to Basti in a beat up bus in the cold, and it was the best new years I had
i used to ride around on rickshaws from my family home to the charminar every day, because there was no bus service and i was in no mood to hike up a daam hill. it costed only five rupees lol and my uncle would get angry that i paid that amount because he demand that i only pay these guys two rupees, i mean who the hell cares its only a few pennies for me.

Quote:
We gotta look at things Islamicaly too, the Caste system and all those are in the Hindu culture primarily, i think memons are just those specific people in Pakistan, the business minded people, some say they are very "cheap" ;p The marthi's the bengalis the pathans I wouldn't say those are castes, more like different social groups from different regions in the country.
but those are ethnic groups, i have seen marriage ad's from pakistan where people were advertising thier caste, believe it or not. and today, ethnicity, sect, and even profession have replaced the hindu caste system among muslims in india and pakistan.

Quote:
The problem with the Muslims in India is that they're assimilating too much with the Hindus and are not looking at their deen and their life styles islamically.
that's very true and i blame bollywood for this brainwashing. thank god that now independently owned pakistani urdu cable channels are now available in india. when i visted hyd in 94' it had just started taking off, and guess which channel was the most popular cable channel in the old city? it was PTV, pakistan tv, then the indian govt banned it two years later.

Quote:
Sure theres flaws in every culture and this one is no exception. What do you mean by, "its you people who choose to see the differences, so thats fine, now you all get what you wanted, and now you cry wolf." What are we crying wolf for? What is it that we wanted and what is it were getting? Living here the US, i see the flaws in the Indian culture, buts thats not all I see.
oh come on man, fobs are the most jealous idoits i have ever came across. they are soo money obssesed, its one huge reason why i never visit india. they hear my american accent, they see that i prefer to speak english, i have a loud mouth, i will tell you to your face what i think, even wearing shorts in that southern deccan heat drove people nutz. 'amreekan amreekan' thats all i heard. basically it goes like this from what i have seen, fobs have a mentality of 'us vs. them'. i used to be the most open-minded and understanding person towards fobs. and unlike most fobs, i never went off to india and flaunted american wealth in front of thier faces. i would always wear nothing but a t-shirt and jeans, to the suprise of this wealthy hindu marwadi businessman who remarked 'kya simple aadmi hai'. but because of this idoitic bollywood, people in india have this impression that the big bad amreekan will come down and show off and flaunt american wealth in front of them, and let's face it compared to most indians and pakistanis, we are wealthy compared to them. but in reality its your own fobs who run off to thier homeland and flaunt off american dollars in front of thier faces, not us so-called 'abcd'.

lol but you know your not the first person to accuse me of being raised in india. years ago i was helping a white lady with help into understand desi fob culture. because her paki fob husband ran out on her and she was worried she was being used for a green card. she would tell her estranged husband everything i was telling her, the guy was so amazed by it, not only did he move back in with her, he said the same thing you are writing here, that there's no way i could be born and raised here lol. buddy i come from a pretty traditional family to begin with, i watch indian news channels, i read newspapers online from both india and pakistan. www.dawn.com, The Times of India: Breaking news, views, reviews, cricket from across India. and even Deccan Chronicle on the Web from hyd. and whatever i dont know, believe it or not i ask other fobs, at least the one's who speak very good english. i have a freind who speaks amazing english, you cant even tell he has only been here since 2001, an older man, and he explained alot to me, especially about pakistan.

but let me tell you my funniest fob story. i was in the abu dhabi airport once, catching a connecting flight to bombay, this was before the days the hyd airport was upgraded to an international airport. and i was walking around the abu dhabi airport, and i saw these group of pathan's sitting on the floor lol. inspite of the fact that right next to them were a row of chairs. and i knew they were pathans from their facial features, lighter-skin and thier shalwar kameez and topi's were the dead give away. so the funniest thing i saw, was this pathan who was scared to use an escalator lol. he had never seen one in his life, and he saw these stairs moving up, and he lifted one leg up and was extremely hesitant to go on these moving stairs hahaha.

but inshallah, believe it or not, i do plan on taking a trip again and traveling all over india. i would like to see more in delhi and agra, and more of bombay, i was staying near the grant road train station when i was there, no jokes please, at a place called bader bagh. i spent nearly a week in the suburb of andheri back in 90'. when i was a kid in 83' i was visiting with my mom and my uncle took me for a camel ride at juhu beach. and since you brought your own village, i spent time in my mother's village when i was a kid, many months in fact. its about a good ten miles away from goldconda. i havent been there since 90'. but after im married i plan on doing this trip. there is no way in hell i will even set one single foot inside india while im still single. and the girl i have in mind grew up in jeddah, and used to visit hyd every single year.
