Guess i'm not too big on the idea of going to that much effort, i just live by the motto that if it doesn't happen naturally then it shouldn't happen at all but each to his own

You could use artificial lights. If you want to feed them, find a spider or an ant or bug somewhere in the house. But CPs don't need to eat bugs to survive.
Here's the butterwort I have growing in my dorm room:
And here it is digesting a spider. The spider literally melts away to a pulpy mass:

She's sad because she's slowly being digested alive....melting away to a pulpy mass......the burning acids slowly dissolving her body.......
Yeah, I would be sad too.

Re: Carnivorous plant thread
I used to have a venus fly trap. It was cute, I loved watching it catch flies and stuff. Of course this was in my teen years, I watched bugs for fun. Jeez, I was a loser

Re: Carnivorous plant thread
Escuse my ignorance I don't know much about plants
Do these plants eat bugs? If so isn't that cruel? Why would I care about feeding plant? If that happens in nature that's fine but cultivating it doesn't seem to me fun. By the way I don't like keeping piranhas either.
By the way long time ago I lived with a nonmuslim roomate who had iguana and used to feed him with alive rats. That was cruel and disgusting!

Yes, carnivorous plants eat bugs. However, the plants catch most of the food themselves. Every now and then, I swat a mosquito that bit me and I feed it to the plants. It's nice that they eat what bugs me.

Yeah, I've also fed it it's own leaves before. It just turns the leaves brown. Nothing special.

Re: Carnivorous plant thread
Wow, those things are so ugly. I would be very, very afraid at night if they were anywhere near my room.
Edit: can you feed them fruits?
