Which sites were demolished?
What Islamic significance did they have?
What cultural significance did they have?
Are those sites being rebuilt or relocated anywhere else?

If the Ottoman Empire was still around today with Makkah in the condition it was right before the Abraj alBait starterd to be built, do you really think that they wouldn't have made the same hard choices that the KSA Govt. has had to make?

Asalamu Alaykum,

First of all, relax brother, I do agree with you.

Secondly, I expressed my sorrow at losing the significance of such sites as the Prophet(saw) home, his daughters home etc. which were present there and have been demolished to make a parking lot.

Expressing sorrow (Oh, I wish that didn't have to happen) and demanding that something shouldn't have been done (That was wrong, and should have been stopped) are 2 different things.

I understand the responsbility entailed with running a unique city as Makkah is, and also aware of the strong arguments that are placed with the possibility of shirk in such significant sites as well, however it's still very upsetting to lose such signs from a city that we hold dearly.

Fi AmanAllah

I am relaxed.

I was just asking questions for you to clarify because this is probably the fourth major thread on Islamica in the past two years on this kinda topic and no one can really articulate what their objection is all about.

You also said you're sad that the Prophet and his daughters' homes were lost and razed over to make a parking lot .... do you have any source for this?

assalamu alaykum

I don't even know what the topic is anymore

I have pictures of the recent destruction around makkah and the ''luxury hotel'' is anyone wants to see It really doesn't over shadow anything, and contrary to some of my earlier posts...we intend to stay there when/if we get to perform hajj insha Allah I'm not created to rough it

assalamu alaykum

astaghfirAllah?!? lol. People need to visit makkah, cos honestly, it's not all that flashy. there's plently of dust, sand, houses on mountains etc.

The beggars? I really looked at them properely now, at least the ones with amputed arms...I'm pretty sure their arms were cut off deliberately and I've noticed many pilgrims simply pass them by and instead give money to the ones selling miswaks or the female beggers looking genuinely poor.

Well... for now it just looks like it's in a city. But if it ends up looking like the first picture in the thread, it'll still be a special kind of ugly.
