I have made a thread about this before the crash but I didn't get to ask this question...
What origins, other than Arabic, are permissible when naming your child?

When I get married and have kids, here's what I want names to be:

Boy: River, Abdul-Rashid, Rasheed, (there's several others but can't think of at the moment)

Girl: Rain, Raven, Sarah, (once again, several others that I can't think of at the moment)

One name I won't name my kid: Wolfn. What a horrible name

from what I've read, any name is permissible, so long as is doesn't have a bad and/or blasphemous meaning. oh and certain of Allah's names are prohibited. and there's controversy surrounding whether or not you can name your kid after angels.

Yup, exactly. As long as the meaning isn't offensive or ill, its permissible.

I always like different and unusual.....so I know that I'll give beautiful and unique names to my children, Inshallah

ok, i wanted to name my son Elijah Jamal.... Would i be able to name one of my sons ethan?
my daughters, i wanted to name one, Jamliah Carnia and the other Naomi Hania...

Some of Allah's name aren't prohibited. But some are. Mu'min can be a name without using 'Abd' eventhough is Allah's name too. But names like Rahman, Raheem must have Abd. There is a hadith that says the most pleasant names for Allah are Abdullah, Aburrahman and Hareeth.
If the name doesn't have bad meaning doesn't have to be arabic name. So convert brothers and sisters don't really have to change their names.

Mohammad, Imad, or Khizer

girls: ghunda bacha, smellybum, dubdub

*These names would depend on whether they suit the personality of the baby of course which can only really be determined 7 months after a childs birth.

I love the bengoli tradition of giving children 2 names! I think i'll do that too.
