ilovethisdeen: Girls: Soraya, Arianna, Mariam, Ellyana, Lily and Naseem
Boys: Shayan, Adam, Ismail, Isa, Noah, Sina, Reza, and Cyrus

Tesneem could be swapped out for Naseem.

And I love the name Isma'il. Soraya is beautiful too but I prefer it spelt and pronounced like Zuraiya.

Arianna is another really pretty name. My brother stole it from me- he's naming his daughter Arianna.

Asalamu Alaikum,

So whats the rule with relatives and name picking? How distant should the relative be in order for it to be alright for you to take the name as well?

My fathers aunts son took my most precious name.I'm wondering if the relationship is far enough for me to take the name as well.

My brothers are named after my uncles.
My aunts are named after their aunts.
But my family's have a tradition of naming kids after someone, which is why there are so many "so and so the 3rd".
It depends on how comfortable you are and how much you like the name.

I never understood that .... like, so what if two people in the extended family circle have the same name?

Judge: Girl's name, Talula Does The Hula, won't do
Thu Jul 24, 5:41 AM ET

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - A family court judge in New Zealand has had enough with parents giving their children bizarre names here, and did something about it.

Just ask Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii. He had her renamed.

Judge Rob Murfitt made the 9-year-old girl a ward of the court so that her name could be changed, he said in a ruling made public Thursday. The girl was involved in a custody battle, he said.

The new name was not made public to protect the girl's privacy.

"The court is profoundly concerned about the very poor judgment which this child's parents have shown in choosing this name," he wrote. "It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap, unnecessarily."

The girl had been so embarrassed at the name that she had never told her closest friends what it was. She told people to call her "K" instead, the girl's lawyer, Colleen MacLeod, told the court.

In his ruling, Murfitt cited a list of the unfortunate names.

Registration officials blocked some names, including Fish and Chips, Yeah Detroit, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit, he said. But others were allowed, including Number 16 Bus Shelter "and tragically, Violence," he said.

New Zealand law does not allow names that would cause offense to a reasonable person, among other conditions, said Brian Clarke, the registrar general of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

Clarke said officials usually talked to parents who proposed unusual names to convince them about the potential for embarrassment.
stupid idiots, they should be fined or jailed.

I read in this baby name book about these parents letting their two very young kids name their new baby and it became: Bob Ash Chewbacca. There was another name mixed in there as well but I forget which it is. Anyway, Bob was for Bob the Builder. Ash was for the Pokemon character. Chewbecca obviously for the Star Wars character. The kids nickname was Chewy.

Freakin idiots.

Mainly for the reason stated by spicyhijabi. I don't want my kid to be the 50th Joe in the family. I'd rather they have their own name for the most part. (within close family)

However 2 of the same name doesn't sound too bad, but anymore of the same name is just pushing it for me.

Orrrrrr ...... if there are indeed 50 Joes in the family, then you can just use easily recognizable physical or audible features of that person to specify which one you're talking about..... Lyyyke:

Joe the Chubster
Joe the Hippopotamus
Joe the Jabba the Hutt
Joe the Uber-brat
Joe Garlicbreath
Joe the Goth

etc
