Details: Public Lecture by Habib Ali and Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad. Muslim traders were instrumental in the past in spreading Islam through peaceful means in SE Asia, West Africa, East Africa and China. It was through their good conduct and ethics that won the people over. In an age of “disaster capitalism” what is the role of Muslim business people and traders in bringing good ethics, akhlaq back to a dog-eat-dog world.

From Hadhramaut to Sylhet to Whitechapel: Reflecting on the Dawah of Shah Jalal

Details: Public event with other special guests from the local area. Shah Jalal is arguably the greatest and most celebrated wali of the Bengal region. He is an example of scholar, saint and leaders who balanced dawah, jihad and tasawwuf. He was also of Hadhrami descent and eventually settled in Sylhet, the spiritual capital of Bangladesh and the region where most of Britain’s Bengali Muslims come from. This is an opportunity to reflect on Shah Jalal’s example and make him relevant for a new generation of young Muslims. Afterwards or before, Habib Ali could take a walk through the local area to meet people and take a tour of one of the most interesting neighbourhoods in London.

The Lost Art of Futuwwa: Rediscovering our Islamic Manhood

Details: Habib Ali will address a very diverse group of young Muslims from the street – many of whom have had trouble with the law, have been arrested, been involved in violence or gang activity. The meeting is being set up with a youth worker who specialises in his area. He runs a physical training session weekly for young Muslim men and is seeking to expand it to more young people as a way of giving them discipline and focus while teaching them good akhlaq and adab. This will be a real chit-chat atmosphere with a focus on discussion and Q&A.
