Subhanallah. On the way back from ISNA, our tire blew up and our car hit a railing, did a flip and skidded 500 ft before stopping upside down. Alhumdullilah all 4 of us were able to walk out with just scratches and bruises.

wallahi that was a scary experience. Only Allah saved us from being hurt. I was sleeping and didn't wake up til the car started flipping so I didn't know what happened, or where I was. A truck driver pulled over and extinguished the fire, then he cut my belt off (I was stuck) so I could get out. The car was totaled. I wouldn't wish this experience even on my enemy.

If theres anything to learn from this experience, is that death can come at any, and even the most unexpected times. You hear about these janazas for a brother whos 27 and died in his sleep, or a teenager dying, but forget about it in a few days. This is just another reminder.

just reading that blew my mind.

apparently texans (sheik speare) are just as capable at making funny t-shirts as canadians (like maniacmuslim). meraj's shirts (also funny), due to circumstances beyond my control, did not make it to the conference, however i sort of kind of have his word on setting up some kind of paypal system once i do get ahold of said funny shirts to maybe insha Allah somehow sell them online...i hope you remember that conversation meraj, even though it was around 3am at that point. in summary, if i ever have to coordinate the selling of t shirts again, i'm going to do myself a favor and just buy them all. for kicks i might ship them all to some random address in china.

t-shirt madness aside, isna was normal. because volunteers have the tendency of dropping out last minute, i managed to have my own room for 90% of the time. as has been the trend, isna's entertainment has gotten progressively more "liberal." this time, dawud wharnsby ali rocked out his guitar on the isna main entertainment stage (i expect at least 2 guitars, one electric, next year), whereas last year he was limited to that extraneous entertainment session that isna reserves for it's "edgier" acts, and having people walk out on those is routine. this year's "edgy entertainment" was astronomically so; i was not present for most of it, and the part i was present for involved who knows what being mixed up on a turntable with a couple random guys sitting on the stage meditating....or whatever that was. at one point i walked past a very smoky sidewalk scene involving breakdancers- i walked pretty fast past that one. and after that "edgy entertainment" session a few performers continued the show in a much calmer (and might i venture appropriate) atmosphere in the hallway outside the main hyatt hall. that was pretty impressive- there was that beatboxer, naeem, that guy from sound of reason, some cool sounding def poet, and they all just jammed together; it was good.

myna rocks.

PISNAD is Post-ISNA-Depression syndrome. It sorta arises when you miss it 'cuz you enjoyed it. Usually.

And I'm glad you're safe AM415. Alhamdullilah.
