Date: 21st October 2007 Location: Willesden City Academy Time: 2pm - 7pm Eid-Ul-Fitr is the most joyous religous festival in the muslim calender and is celebrated by muslims all around the world at the end of the Ramadan fast. This year there are a wide range of activities to entertain you... Daf workshop 2pm-3pm and 4pm-5pm Khaled Hakim learnt Sufi frame-drum (daf) in the traditional ceremonies of a Sufi Order. The workshop will teach the basics of playing daf and Sufi rhythms from the Middle-East - invigorating, powerful, and cleansing for the soul. Prayer room 3-4pm A female and male prayer room will be provided Story Telling Set in a stunning Yurt this will provide an intimate space for Islamic stories. They will take place between 2-4pm, break for one hour and continue from 5-6.00pm. RANI PUPPET THEATRE – Rani Singh’s tells Islamic fairy tales and stories from the Muslim world using exquisite, hand-made South Asian puppets. 2pm-3pm and 5pm-5.30pm SILK RD TALES – Alia Alzougbi is a professional storyteller and actor from Lebanon. Her work is suitable for all ages, but if you're young, be prepared to join in! 3pm-4pm and 5.30pm-6pm Craft Workshops These will be positioned around the hall on tables and on carpeted floor. They will take place between 2-4pm, break for one hour and continue from 5-6.30pm 3-D crafts – Zarah Hussain (tbc) leads a crafts workshop exploring the sacred geometry so dear to Islamic arts. Creating beautiful 3-D lantern shapes - this workshop is guaranteed absorbing fun for adults and children alike. Weaving – Rezia Wahid MBE is an award-winning textile artist whose work is feted both in the craft and contemporary art worlds. An inspiring teacher, she will lead workshops in multi-media weaving Henna hand tree – Building on the success of last year henna hand templates will be coloured in by children to create leaves for our tree of peace. World Sweet Area It has been tradition at the event to provide attendees with Ambala sweets. For 2007 we intend to incorporate sweets from other cultures Pakistan (Mithai), Afghanistan (Ambrosia - Haf-miwah), Arabia (Baklawa) Turkey (Turkish Delight), Indonesia (Manadonese coconut pudding), Malaysian (Dodol) Somalian (Gashaato), Bengali (Mishti Doi), Korean (Ho-ddok), Kashmir (Modur Polay). # http://www.brent.gov.uk/creative.nsf...1!OpenDocument |
