I wanted to go hang out at my friend's house, but I couldn't afford the $3 toll to get into Philly.

Re: Broke! How broke are you? The Broke Thread
When it comes to finance, I love being an asian. Parents don't expect you to work even if you do they still transfer money into your account. Though I took a loan out to get into university so I am in debt

Re: Broke! How broke are you? The Broke Thread
what do you guys think? when loans are used do they help in the long run and/or only in the immediate financial needs of whoever? whether it be for school, a house or even a brand new car.

Yousuf, do not take a loan out unless you are in dire need of it . You know what, I wonder how islamic finance works with regards to loan. If those who are in uk switch to HSBC Amanah, they won't give you any interest but I wonder how the loan repayments work. I'm pretty sure they have to apply same APR otherwise they're not making nothing.

I don't know about that Yousuf, we have halaal mortgages and god knows what else. I'm sure it's all the same process, like for example see when you put your money in the bank, the bank give you some interest right. Well islamic bank calls it PROFIT rather than interest so basically the same process just change the names to attract muslims

If I didn't take out a loan for my University education I wouldn't be able to study past A-level...

Re: Broke! How broke are you? The Broke Thread
actually the bank i go to here in the states doesn't give me interest as I've told them to keep their money. as far as an islamic loan we have guidance, la riba, devon bank and a couple of others for housing loans. I think it was amjaonline that gave the fatwah that devon bank was ok only if they made sure to do a couple of things. Would have to look it up as its been a while, but aside from that I would never get a loan and even that islamic one is kinda iffy. But if a fatwah was given from a reputable group of scholars like amjaonline has; then it's already at a much more knowledgable level then where im at thats for sure. Allah knows best.

thats too bad, its wierd that they dont have financial aid in the uk. I qualified for it here in the states. We need our rich brothers and sisters in islam to help more in these issues thats for sure. Inshallah.
