Depends at what level you fight at.... in my amateur association I think they would let those shorts go. People are pretty accomodating when it comes to religious requirements here. My gym would be fine with them.

Board shorts are good... the thing is, they have to be cut right at the knee, because when bend down and they're full of seawater, they kind of grab on around your knees and it's a pain in the butt.

And water sports/hot weather sports are kind of tough to do in pants.

If they were a bit longer and were worn with a big tee then maybe you could pull off a skaterish look, but if you wear them with a polo shirt, you just need to tie a sweater around your neck and call yourself Carlton.
