Yeah, I don't go to Walmart either. I'm willing to pay more for non-sweatshop labor.

i was refering to just anyone... no one should just go up and feel its their duty to say something or else you get bad naseeha as seen in that thread with dawahworks. but naseeha can be made with the proper people inshallah

Shukr has an awesome product and I'm willing to spend a little cash every know and then to get some nice looking clothes.

Although, I've given away all of my Shukr purchases to friends because i love them and now I have to buy new clothes. Wait a minute. DOWN WITH SHUKR!

Here's the problem I have with thobes. Every time I sit down in them, I feel really uncomfortable, like my legs are restricted or something. I wind up pulling it up and bunching it around my thighs and it looks ridiculous. It's especially a problem when I drive - then I just have it bunched practically around my waist (btw, I wear pants underneath thobes, obviously). How do you deal with that?

if they ask and you have knowledge of something, then sure- correct away. i won't sit here and say you should never correct someone- there are of course instances where you can and should. but it's unfortunately being done improperly all over the place. give naseeha (advice), sure, but with some adab (manners) please. when people stop coming to the masjid because of the comments/rude gestures they get regarding what they're wearing (and it happens OFTEN), something is terribly wrong.

i know we've argued over this before, but what happens when the hijabi in the tight jeans comes to the masjid? or gasp, what if she's without a headscarf altogether?

I share your reticence with respect to thobes. You can't run in them and sometimes I find myself doing things or being in situations where you just gotta drop everything and bolt. Shelvaar Kameez are a functional alternative but I think they look ridiculous.

Yeah, they're definitely not activewear. Running isn't even an option. Also, do you guys all wear pants underneath your thobes? I do because I have to, but it seems like it kind of renders the thobe superficial. If I could somehow get around the other issues, I'd probably stop wearing pants underneath.

Maybe we should take this discussion to MPH?

Those "shirts" weren't great and guys in shalwar kameez look really nice. I saw one on the bus the other day and he was doing dhikr the entire time too. Pretty cool.

Revert: Buying from Walmart is supporting injustice..i am on a boycott.
Drop the attitude insha'Allah.

I don't buy my clothes from WalMart but most of the shirts on the linked site are comparable to the ones I've see at WalMart that are a fraction of the cost. Hell, I've seen the same shirts at Kohls, Rue21, JcPenney's and among several others. As I said before, nothing exclusive.

It's not an attitude because if I were saying the same thing about RL or VS, then no one would have a problem. But since it's about a fellow Muslim, there's an issue. Double-standards. If it's overpriced, then it's overpriced. Get over it.

Do you have.....
  1. Scissors?
  2. 5 minutes of free time?
  3. Little to no fear of public opinion?
If you've answered yes to all of the above I have good news for you. By making a carefully considered use of your scissors you can have the freedom you deserve.

You'll look like an a$$ but sometimes that's just the price you have to pay.
