i don't think having the money justifies flaunting it like that. it just seemed gaudy to me. i don't want to come across sounding like a jerk though, that's just my own personal opinion. i think understated elegance always wins out over glitz

i like the outdoors thing... it's not a wedding without the singing and dancing. though that could just be my punjabiness talking.
i like the outdoors part too
dude, i have nothing against singing/dancing, it's just that that particular group of guys looked kind of ridiculous. neon stunna shades and matching kicks? erm.... im sure they were trying to come across as trendy, but they just looked like those overconfident 13 year-old kids who come to the masjid dressed like wannabe rappers and speaking pseudo-ebonics, but then go home in their mom's minivans.

other than their decor and clothing not being to my tastes, i thought the mehndi was great. don't see what the big deal is? people spend as much money as they can on these events. they just had more than most people do.

kajillion bucks understated elegant wedding or flashy wedding, both can cost the exact same amount of money. i don't think either one has to be a manifestation of "flaunting" money. they're just two different ways in which people with money spend theirs.

it was sorta kinda beautifully decorated in some things but overall i am pretty disgusted by this flashy show of indulgence. but ...hey, they seem to be able to afford it, so whatever.

for all y'all know everything was donated for free by other people and in the end it cost less than most ordinary weddings.

At any rate, I thought the blackistani dancers (as afra calls them) were INCREDIBLY SILLY and that things were WAY too matchy matchy. I expect Matchy matchy with western weddings where you choose 2-3 colors and everything is in those colors, but it looked way weird in a desi wedding with all the bling bling. The paper mache egg was silly too.

Other than that it looked like everyone was having fun, so hey, anything goes right! Just think of that other youtube video with the whole procession coming in and doing a dance, SILLY TO THE MAX so same thing I guess.

Silly.

It certainly wasn't something I would do, but hey, to each their own. Colors were like whoa, and the egg thing was kinda creepy. Other than that. meh.

just to point out if it wasn't obvious (it seems like it wasn't?), the peacock themed thing was the wedding. the other indoor thing (with yellow everywhere), was the menhdi.

also, everyones doing weddings like that nowadays in pakistan - the outdoor setup is a common one there, where folks get tents and what not. it's something folks have done for a very very very long time, the only difference is that they're putting in an effort to decorate them now. so, the part where they're doing the dances is actually just a tent, too. other than the customized peacock, i honestly don't see how it's over the top? matching isn't a crime, nor is decorating your venue. and honestly, lots of girls do the doli thing for their entrance (AND it's traditional) - this chic wanted a peacock..thing. what's the difference?

sure, they may have icky taste with the guys questionable purple matchy matchy sherwani and what not...but if you ask me, the only crime they're committing is a fashion related one.

OH. and cut the 'blackistanis' some slack. i bet they're just regular kids that are cousins of the bride or groom that are doing a skit or a choreographed dance thing to some cheap popular bollywood song cause they're families pestered em into it. that's what family does. and it's a wedding, what do you want them to do? geez.

i really don't get why people take things so seriously/personal? there will ALWAYS be people who think something or another at your wedding was unusual/tacky/not to their taste or liking. i'm sure there were people on here as well as in real life who thought it was ridiculous that i paid out the nose for a specific piece of decoration, or that the entire concept of renting out a gigantic hotel ballroom is over the top. perhaps they prefer small family only affairs in their backyards. but it was my wedding, and i did it the way i liked it, so everyone else can stuff it? and we all move on?

besides, if you're willing to make a trailer for your entire wedding affair and post the thing on youtube of all places, then you really need to be able to take what billions of people in the world will dish out in lieu of criticism and comments. the comments on here would probable pale in comparison to what the average youtuber is capable of...

here's some flowers and junk so people don't get offended.

I think it's ok to think something is tacky and not to your liking/sense of style but rude comments are a different story

While I was searching for 'South Asian Professional Wedding Photo and Videography' on Google, I came across that same couples pictures up on a site

Some of the stuff, not my style..other stuff is nice

Ditto

Its the bride and grooms special moments. Let them eat their cake. Every bride and groom have their own idea of how they want their wedding to be. Some people might like it, some people might not. We've all been to weddings where we commented on something saying "how tacky, I'd never do that", while others thought the opposite. At the end of the day, it's what makes it their special day and something that they would look down the road at and reminisce.

As for the "blackistani" kids, I'd totally have a ball if my cousins and/or siblings put on a show for me like that. Sure I'd make fun of them for their entire life, but its cute and its funny, and I wouldn't want all of my wedding to be completely sentimental. But then again, I like being goofy and having people make me laugh.

Now, lets continue on with posting more pretty pictures.

Oh and sally, thanks for the link. I'm totally saving some of their pictures, I like some of the decorations from their wedding.
