She obviously does more desi style makeup, but I never saw her make a bride look bad, and I never saw her do a clown face on anyone. To me, they looked balanced and finished, not washed out. But then again, I like slightly heavier makeup for weddings (especially on the eyes), and I'm not keen on the natural look when you're wearing such an heavy, colorful jora and jewelry. In real life in your room as you're getting ready, the makeup may look and feel heavy, but with all the lights on you, especially from the videographer's spotlights, the more substantial makeup looks better. Desi style makeup has come a long way, and the more talented artists don't do white cakey kabuki faces anymore.
Also, when you go to Raheela's salon, she has a bunch of photos up of all the brides she's done. Some are better than others. Tell her which ones you like and why you like them, and she'll get an idea of what you prefer.
It really depends on what kind of makeup you like and what you want for your wedding. I know some people like more subtle stuff, but truth be told, it doesn't always translate well in the professional pictures. Definitely get a trial done, set your dupatta around your head, put on the jewelry, and take some photos and see if you like it or not.

My fiance's sister visited her salon and was happy with the make up Raheela does. My bhabhi had her walima make up done from there 5 years ago. The comments online mostly have been about lack of attention to brides (since she's doing like 5 at a time) and the rude staff. Being a hijabi, there's also a lack of privacy since anyone can walk in whenever. I've also read the salon is dirty and not keen on hygiene.
Do you have any feedback on those comments?
I MAY be taking a trip to NY before the wedding/walima iA so I will try to get in a trial. BK is just far from LI. I think ideally I'd like to get ready in LI especially since make up never lasts on my face.

Perhaps you can find a bunch of different styles, and have someone do that on you instead relying solely on the artist's creation? There's a MAC group on Facebook where you can find some really nice eye makeup styles, and then there's a group called Shutter Photography (though I think I've mentioned them here before). Shutter has some nice shots too with lovely makeup. Look around, see what you like, and if worse comes to worst then that would be a good bet.
But of course, I hope it all works out and you dont have to do that. InshAllah khair.

Hi I just saw this... Yeah at least in NY iA I'll have many options so I'm not too worried. It's the damn boondocks (shaadi) that is difficult.

My chachi forced me! She also forced me to get my ears pierced at the age of 3 and took me (by force) to buy my first bra.

By the way, I was out at Sephora buying a gift card for someone when I decided to treat myself! I bought the Urban Decay eye primer. The lady at Sephora said it was the best; however, I will see about that tonight .

Re: The Official Make-Up Thread
I bought this mineral foundation today from Larenim (oooo, mineral spelled backwards). Never again, at least not that brand. It was at whole foods, I'm dumb boo.. it doesn't cover a thing.

I have bare minerals and i really dont think mineral make up is effective in covering up blemishes, pimples etc. I think it just gives my face a nice smooth polish. for my wedding i'd for much heavier coverage than mineral make up.
