Couple of faux pas that make my brain freeze - usually at an event like a wedding:
- Guys who are wearing dress shirts with the wrong collar size - either the collar is bigger than their neck size, or smaller. It looks really bad when the collar has a few extra inches and the dude is wearing a tie, and it looks just as miserable when the collar is too short, and he can't do the top button and yet he's wearing a tie.
- Guys who button up all three buttons on their suits. You never do the last / bottom button. Either do the top two, or one of the top two. Walking around with all three buttons done up [on a 3-button suit] is even more awkward and dumb than walking around with your fly open. People might miss the fact that your zipper is open, but its a lot harder to miss the fact that you have all three buttons done. And you just look like an idiot.
- Wearing a tie with a button-down collar that doesn't have any spines.
- Wearing a clip-on tie.
- Wearing your tie too long, or too short. Have these guys never heard of a mirror?
- Wearing white socks with dark dress shoes.
