Kufi color: Which is best?
I am African-American and I would like to purchase some kufis. At the masjid, they suggested that I buy white because it means purity and equality. Then I read this:

I was looking at the External Links on wiki and I realized that there are many different styles available. Which color of kufi is best? What style of kufi is best for a new muslim (revert)? Should I wear a crown or a crochet? I like the white crochet from Halalco. Other brothers at my mosque wear them. At my masjid only the Imam and the men who teach Arabic on Sunday wear crowns. Can non-scholars wear them, or do you have to know a lot of Arabic and Hadith? |

I currently wear a white crochet kufi, but I want to get a black one with a design on it. For some reason, I feel I look awkward wearing the white one. My friend who just converted 3 weeks ago wears a black one.

White, crochet...
I prefer more "exotic" designs just because the white crochet Kufi is popular among rastafari's and Women with perms....

Since the day, I was born, ive seen my dad wearing white color kufi, but my stylish brotherinlaw wears the black ones..

White, black, brown, or green crocheted is so MashaAllah.  I don't much like when they get crazy with the designs or colors, and I def. don't like when the Kufi is inches into the air. Keep it fitted.

Have I told this story before? I was once asked by a non-Muslim man if it was okay if he wore a kufi; he liked them, so he said, because they nicely covered his "bald noggin."
Any-hoo, I like the black ones. White are okay. I prefer the non-lacy variety. But what I really like is that red Moroccan style!

I think it's a Sunnah to cover your hair [for a male].
A few of the brothers I used to work with would often grab their Kufis and put them on as they headed of for Salat.
Personally I love it on a brother. It's nice to recognise brothers on the street especially if you're one to initiate salams as I like to do [yes, even to a brother, as 'risque' as that may sound].

I prefer black kufis over white. White ones tend to look a bit 'stale' over time...
