Well yeah, nobody's going to tell you your gift sucks! But, um, to each their own I guess.

haha, these flip flops cost like 9 bucks. they're pretty cheap to give as the only gift..i throw them in the gift bag as a side gift
and actually most people have seemed to appreciate them and i can honestly say they dont seem to fake it..cuz girls seem to just go like AWWWWWWWWWWW when they realize what the bottom of them says..like i said they're corny but cute but like everything not everybody can appreciate their cornycuteness

I've never told anyone that their gift sucked even when it did suck. You don't deserve a present- no one has to give you anything, so I try to appreciate that someone took the time to give me something they thought I would like. A close friend gave me a gift and although I was thinking, "WTF" I couldn't help be appreciative because it was thoughtful, but our mutual friend had a conniption. She ended up bringing up the gift in front of our other friends and it was pure drama. I felt really, really bad, but my friend was like "I can't believe she gave you that and I'm offended" blah, blah, blah...

yeah alhamdulillah it's not my style to comment on the kind of gift i get from someone. either to the person or to anyone else. i appreciate the gesture of someone taking the time out to give me something as opposed to the gift moreso
but you know what i really feel bad about? when there's a baby or bridal shower, and a whole portion of the event is dedicated to opening gifts in front of everybody and announcing who gave what...it's so awkward for people who give relatively 'small' gifts..im not a big fan of gift opening in front of people for reasons such as this, because it's like sort of showing off to me (along with making certain people uncomfy) but also, when a gift is 'big' or 'nice' or clearly expensive, the audience pretty much roars a WOWWWWW, or AWWWW...i.e. there's some sort of positive reaction..but when a gift is clearly not most peoples cup of tea, nobody reacts..it's sort of just really quiet for a second and maybe one person says that's cute! and they move on to the next gift
now THAT'S awkward!

Exactly! That's why I don't open my gifts in front of anyone. My friend asked me what my other friend gave, so I kind of had to tell her especially since she knew from before AND tried talking her out of it .
Now back to shoessssssssss!

Re: Shoes glorious shoes.
You guys are so funny. You're all trying to tell sally that her gift sucked, but people were just too polite to say anything. Poor sally, she just can't win for loosing sometimes. (I love you sally)
I think the thongs are cute, but they are more of a gag gift than anything else.
I'm usually too broke to buy anything. Since I always have a gazillion craft projects that are nearly finished at any given time, I usually just finish one of those and give it as a gift. They are usually well recieved, since they are unique gifts, and people appreciate that it took me ages to finish.
One day I'll have a real job, and I'll be able to afford nice gifts for people.
