hi, uhm, i made a boo-boo? and uhm, i need major major help before my dad sees the mark i left on my beautiful brand new nissan sentra 2008 that is only about 6 months old? (guys, i need your help! NOT any insensitive moronic comments about girls + cars. thanks.)

ok so i was getting into the apartment complex and its a gated community so you have to go through the gate and punch in numbers on this metal number code box to get in. im pretty used to doing this, its a daily routine. somehow today, while driving up to the metal gatecode box, i got too close without noticing and ended up scraping the left sideview mirrow of my car with the bottom part of the metal box. its not just a minor scratch. it scraped right through the paint and into some of the metal it looks like. its pretty deep for a gash on a car. probably about 1-1 1/2 mm deep.

what do i do? whats the most inexpensive way to have this fixed? how do i go about it? is there anything i can do to fix it on my own? like any products? can one of u car expert boys give me a guesstimate of how much it'd cost to have it fixed by an autoshop?

where would i find a charcoal gray colored marker to color it with so itd camoflage itself in with the color of the car?

you may be able to get some touch up paint from a nissan
dealer, just get the code for the paint and ask them. It shouldn't
be to much 5 to 15 dollars...you may then need to go to some
body shop and have them put it on for you.

Depending on how deep the scratch is...that may help.

the side mirror is plastic probably... i'm not sure if it can be filled in; you can call an auto body shop and ask them. To fill in and paint from a local shop might cost a couple hundred (just painting over would be cheaper but it's a new car so you should get it fixed properly).

You can also call local auto salvage yards (where car parts from wrecked cars are sold) or check online/ebay for the side mirror part. If the sentra hasn't changed in 2008 from previous years the 2007 part will fit your car.

You're a girl, just cry a lil and your dad won't be too harsh. Or just park your car far from your apt door entrance.

thats pretty small...nothing to be worried about.

You need to know the colour code of your car's model...it should be in the car manual documents supplied by the dealer. Take that number to a wal-mart or any famous auto-part retailer that sell original car spray paints that would match the colour code of your car...buy it and spray paint it yourself...(if you know how to do it). Shouldnt cost you more than 30 bucks.


Or just take your car to a local body shop and ask them to do it for you professionally...Shouldn't charge you more than 50-60 bucks.

Just scrape the other sideview mirror in the exact same way, and claim that the car came that way.

That works well. My sister in law drove her dads new car into a tree and totaled it, then cried to him and he bought a new one the same day so she would 'stop crying'.

Also, do you have an older brother? they can fix anything, ask him to run it to the shop and have it fixed.

You're going about this all wrong. Just say someone else scraped your car, and you didn't even notice. Trust me, I have scraped plenty of mirrors. If that fails, just cry and blame it on cramps. You're a girl after all

Best advice out there. If you paint over it, the color still won't match up just right and it'll always be noticeable if someone takes more than a glance. Replacing the part with the same colored one will be the best way to go, other than:

Eh, you're fine. I opened this thread thinking that you'd run into something and broken it clean off. Don't worry about it. If the appearance bothers you that much, have your BROTHER take it to a body shop, and ask if they can do a a paint touch up. Don't go yourself. If you go yourself, the body shop guy will see your cuteness and try to charge you 3x the real amount, and try to get you to do all kinds of other things to the car.

I bet your dad won't even notice. If he did, just tell him it happened at school or something.

That's what white-out is for, duh.
