It's a large, heavy, V-10 powered sedan that screams from 0-60 in 4 seconds & change. I'd say that fits the qualifications for "guy car."
Also, M5 isn't just a 5 series. It's an "M" car (whole different engineering team within BMW). M cars are the epitome of masculinity. The M5 specifically is equipped with a 500 hp/383 tq V10 engine and after SMG was phased out, wasn't available with anything but a traditional stick shift (it's now available with the M DCT, which replaces the old SMG).
Even the interiors of the M cars, with their thick steering wheels (too thick for small hands and accompanied by heavy steering feel), M pedals & leather M shifter scream "this is a MAN'S car."
The highest end 5 - the 550i - is also a 'guy car.' So is the 335i - most women will generally opt for the 328, since they have no need for the additional 70 horses or any desire to modify their car for performance.
Where is a 3 series BMW common as a first car? Beverly Hills? First BMW, maybe..

Never really noticed that before. But I don't have a problem with that per se.. Audis are very aesthetically pleasing vehicles -

R8
RS6
But the GT coupe does blow the Quattroporte out of the water. It has to be one of the best looking cars I've ever seen.

i don't understand how a v-10 equates to a "guy car." i have yet to try one out, but anything less than a v8 is sub par driving to me. most guys i know have no idea how to drive stick, and sadder still, don't even care to learn; so again, i don't see how manual = "guy." a thick steering wheel to indicate a masculine car? seriously? as for that heavy feel- a lot of people, men and women alike, much prefer it. and finally, if men have any more need for additional horsepower than women do, i'll eat my hijab. i wanna know your definition of need, because i know mine, and it aint got nothin to do with extra horses.

Well, I agree that Audis are very elegant looking cars (the R8 is hot, though I don't like the two-tone look from the side). However, if I'm getting a Maserati, I think it should be a little more distinctive.

Sigh. It was only a matter of time.
First, the M5 is specifically created and tuned for driving performance (though to a lesser extent than the M3). The V-10 in that vehicle is a component of that.
Female automotive enthusiasts are relatively few and far between; female automotive enthusiasts who can afford $90k cars are rarer still. 95% of "M" car owners are male; that figure is probably higher still when it comes to the E60 M5.
I guarantee you if you made a scientific survey of men & women from similar backgrounds and asked them if they'd like to drive a V-10 powered automobile, only a small percentage of the few females who knew what a V-10 was to begin with would agree. Probably none of them would be able to push an M5 to even 8/10ths of its limits.
I'd consider that you personally may be an exception in the automotive enthusiast dept, but the statement "anything less than a v8 is sub par driving" is something that would never come from the mouth of an automotive enthusiast, so probably not.

What do most guys you know have to do with anything? The majority of vehicles traditionally equipped with manual transmissions are marketed to & sold to men. Yeah, the majority of men don't drive stick nowadays, but a far greater % of men do than women.

The M wheels are thick to the point where it would be uncomfortable to grip if you had small hands. Most women have small hands. The steering wheel is designed for a man's grip.

Actually, that's the #1 complaint females tend to have about BMWs in general.. heavy steering feel.

.. You aren't "women," you're "one woman." Nobody "needs" more horsepower, it's just that men tend to be the ones to prefer/desire it.

The R8s side blades can be had in regular silver as well.. I think they look best in black, though

You can get them in any color, or you can order the car in mono-tone so the sides are the same as the body.

Yeah, one of the aunties has it and she said something similar when she got it. It's pretty funny to see her rollin' in it - she is a speed demon (with a lot of tickets too).
