If you've got time to look, you could get a cherry 2001-2003 E39 540i for around $15k. IMO the E39 was by far the best iteration of the 5 series & one of the best BMWs ever. As long as it's got the six speed & the sport package, you're set. Just make sure you get a really good set of snows for the winter, since it's rear wheel drive. :P
edit: .. note, however, that maintenance on that car will not be cheap

Yeah and in your situation, you're better off getting a car that's going to need minimal maintenance and last you for your whole residency and perhaps your first year of practice so I guess Civic it is . |

I've got a new car! Got it last week and I love it!
It's more of a boy's car in my opinion but its what I wanted and its wicked.
I got a VW Golf 1.6 upgraded from my 1.zilch Polo
It's like the same car, just older and wiser, like me!
