Yes, these are crossovers, but a different kind of crossover.

Crossovers are SUVS that are built on car platforms. The ones that I showed above take crossovers to a new level. The BMW, Land Rover, and Infiniti can lap a track faster than a Porsche Boxter. They can handle and corner and accelerate faster than most street-cars.

In other words, they are sport's car SUVS.

Actually, they can corner about the same. Their low-stance, race-tuned suspension and other goodies help it.


Think of these SUVS as Porsche Boxters, except that you can carry the entire family and a load of lumber from Home Depot.

I don't really see the point to the X6. It'll have the same twin turbo engine that's in the 335i, but it will weigh half a ton more and start at about 70k. At the same time, it doesn't have enough space to have the utility of an X5.

But I'm sure people who were considering non-turbo Porsche Cayennes will sit up & take notice.

BMW X6:

uses an all-new 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It produces 408 horsepower (304 kW) between 5,500 and 6,400 rpm, and 600 Nm (443 ft·lbf) of torque over a wide range of between 1,800 and 4,500 rpm. It is the first turbocharged V8 engine in the world to feature its turbocharger and catalytic converters between the V section in the middle of the two banks of cylinders.

Also, BMW is a sporty brand. When people were engineering the X6 to be a sports car SUV, I'm sure that they know what they are doing.
