Mayback or RR, on the other hand, are - but only if its someone who's trying real hard. Otherwise if the owner has a personal net worth of a couple billion, then neither of those would necessarily be flamboyant.

BMW styling is some of the most controversial car styling. Yes, the Aztek and stuff were hideous, but BMW styling is a "love-it/hate-it" design. Therefore, it gets lots of attention.
Chris Bangle (the designer for BMW) said people go up to the BMW 6-Series and secretly touch it. He said that's the kind of reaction that BMW is trying to get out of people.

To say a car like the Z8 (for instance) is not a "flamboyant" vehicle is a ridiculous statement. These cars are meant to be flamboyant. They're expensive, fast, luxurious, and completely impractical vehicles with distinctive styling.

Word. The 6 series is truly, truly beautiful. Pictures don't do it justice. Chris Bangle has turned off a lot of Bimmer fans, though. Personally, I love the way the 335i looks (and not just coz I'm biased).

Dude, go back and look up the meaning of the word, and then come back and compare it to what I was talking about.

Re: 2009 Hyundai Genesis
Hyundai's are crap when it comes to quality. It's just ridiculous to compare Genesis with the likes of Lexus and Bimmers.
This new Genesis would make a good cab ride, though.

Chris Bangle is known for flamboyant design. And "flamboyant" applies to the Z8 and the 6 series in every way. Chris Bangle himself (the lead designer on the Z8) stated that the Z8 was "pure flamboyance." He & BMW describe his design style as "flame surfacing."
Maybe you should look up "flamboyant" & also learn what you're talking about before speaking. I doubt you knew who Chris Bangle was before this discussion began.

The styling is also refered to as "styling by machete"
However, many people don't like the rear ends of BMWs, mostly the rears on the 7 series and 6 series. These rear ends are refered to as "Bangle-Butts"

Yeah, the rear ends are a little hard to get used to.
The other thing I don't like is that the coupes are basically sedans with two doors missing - so you have a big blank panel where the door should go. It looks off. Plus, you pay a premium to have 2 less doors (inconvenience), but no performance/handling increase.

No way. The front of most BMWs is awesome. It's aggressive and sleek, and looks especially good with the angel eyes.

Around here people know who Chris Bangle is quite well, and they don't like his style. I don't either. And where I come from, none of the BMWs are considered flamboyant.
I thought you had higher standards.
Apparently not.

Re: 2009 Hyundai Genesis
While we are on the subject, Hyundai is developing a sedan to compete with the BMW 7-Series/Lexus LS. It'll cost around $50,000 to $70,000. Look for it to debut within the next two years.

The BMW 7-series is in the $150K range.
If Hyundai is going to try to create a competing model at 1/2 or even 1/3 that price, I won't even look at it.

Re: 2009 Hyundai Genesis
The thing to keep in mind is that Hyundai is now reaching out for richer consumers, people who are able to purchase high-end BMWs and Lexus models.
A lot of other automakers made this break as well, Toyota's Lexus, Nissan's Infiniti and Honda's Acura. The only difference is that Hyundai didn't create a sub-branch for luxury/performance vehicles (which I think they should).
The pros for new branding would be better service, repuration, etc.
The con would be a more expensive maintenance.
Can it compete with BMW 5 and Mercedes E? Maybe or maybe not. But judging whether it will not just because its a Korean Hyundai doesn't justify it.

Around here ... in Mississauga? Why do people in Mississauga know Chris Bangle quite well? Why aren't any BMWs considered flamboyant there? A Z8 would be given many second and third looks on Rodeo Drive, but not in Mississauga, Ontario? How many Z8s actually exist in Mississauga?
Maybe to all the way-too-cool, extremely wealthy people in Mississauga who drive Toyota Camrys, a Z8 just isn't up to snuff when it comes to making a statement. For the rest of the world, a $130k 2-seat roadster which made its public (outside of the automotive industry) debut in a James Bond film is considered to be on the "flashy" side.
Obviously there is a difference between a Z8 and the Lamborghini Reventon; but there's also an even greater gulf between the Z8 and a 528i.
In regards to my standards, acknowledging the cars are flamboyant doesn't necessarily mean I like the cars - though the 6 series is undeniably gorgeous, and Bangle's designs have grown on me. FWIW Bangle was a big honcho in design at BMW long before he took everything over; a lot of people don't know that his designs have been influencing the BMW look for a while now. I will say that I do miss the Hofmeister style rears.

No it isn't. Even a fully optioned long wheelbase version of the 760 won't cost you more than $140k - less if you get a decent deal. The 750 is much cheaper - with all the options one would actually want on the car, you could get it for about $90k (starts at $70k).
