Assuming that you drive manual...do a lot of women drive manual in the UK? The general perception is that women dont go near manual cars in Canada.

Almost everyone, male and female, drives manual in the U.K.

Re: Manual vs Automatic?
Its considered completely homosexual to drive an automatic in the UK. Even the 6 year old car thiefs snort at disgust at the thought of jacking a Automatic.
I don't drive but I can drive...just don't have a license..

Then again, manual gearboxes can also be a pain in traffic.

Manual gearboxes are pain in traffic for those who like driving in third gear and love crawling along with the traffic while listening to Bryan Adams "i've been dreaming, Straight from the heart..." song...

Thats interesting...I was under the impression that Automatics were pretty popular in the UK as well...So, whats the perception of automatics amongst the females in the UK?

Automatics are for lazy, unmotivated drivers who shiver at the thought of multi-tasking whilst driving.

Re: Manual vs Automatic?
There's not much to it: women and men alike will choose manual over automatic. simple as. automatic is if you're incredibly lazy or handicapped.

Well, it makes sense to. Anyone who's driven in London will be familiar with the stop-start-stop-start-stop-start which is an inevitable consequence of the insane volume of traffic. Constantly stopping and starting wears out your foot, your ankle, your clutch and your sanity.

Re: Manual vs Automatic?
wow, i cant believe automatics are so looked down upon
i know in europe manuals are still pretty popular but i didnt know they were that popular.
like, i dont think people in europe drive as much as they do in northern america, but i havent done any research on that..im basing this on the fact that europe has a better public transportation system than the US

I have never know anyone to drive an Auto in the UK. Even in Brum where it gets pretty busy.

Re: Manual vs Automatic?
OK.. but again, all of these statements apply to traditional manuals vs traditional automatics.
Now, if you take a clutchless manual like Ferrari's (which is shifted with paddles) or a good manumatic - like the ZF transmission in the Steptronic version of the BMW 335i (also shifted with paddles), what do you guys think of those?

Re: Manual vs Automatic?
By the way, people in pretty much every country outside of the US & Canada seem to prefer stick. The prevalence of automatics is strictly a North American phenomenon.
