Re: Automotive Hell - Car Problems - what the junk, BICAMACYCLES!?
DUDE, WHO THE HELL TURNED THIS INTO THE GAY BICYCLE NAZI THREAD FOR FIVE DAYS!!?
yeesh! a guy's interweb goes down for a week and THIS happens!?
(no offense, bicycle people, but this thread is for modes of conveyance with actual MOTOR power, for FAT FATTIES, like us, not trim slim fit and fim little bike people. for a whlie i thought you were talking about harley's. that would be ok. but once i realized it was huffys and bmx's! C'AMON MAN! start your own unAUTOmobiles thread.)
thank god for you and your horrific transmission problems for bringing the thread back to it's natural order. and condolences. YES. transmission stuff is the WORSTE stuff on EARTFFFFh.
cost me like 1,300 to fix my transmission that got blown in 2005. and then of course there were other problems after. it was just the start of two years of fun.
WHAT!? manual transmission only costs 500 bucks! someone find me a phonebook, i need a new old Pontiac La Baron from 1987!
in recent news, my a/c still works, but with a little whine to it, probably coming from the fan, and more noticeable when i go to level 3 or 4 on it, that is quite nice when you're trying to listen to the quiet NPR shows.
and...the battery started dying this week. so i had to get like 3 jump-starts in one day (one of the most demeaning experiences a driver experieces...begging strangers to let him get a jump...although it can be a nice way to interact with a random girl for like 2 minutes while coming home from a boring dental office visit).
so, i had to get a new battery. sears wanted 80 bucks for a die hard, plus 12 to install it. instead the good people at Advanced (formerly Discount) Auto popped a puppy in there for 70 bucks all told, free installation and some spray for my icky battery connector lead thingies. i think Advanced Auto is the only auto people I trust or like at all. And not just cause they're cheaper, but mostly because they're cheaper.
So, yes. Tiny A/C whine (which goes away sometimes), and 70 bucks for a new battery.
and my wheel still wobbles when i go 70 or 80. cause of my bent rim, which will cost me 50 bucks to fix.
time to check how much money we've racked up on the old credit card!

Re: Automotive Hell - Car Problems - TRUTH
"…It’s that same vibe that you get with any auto mechanic you’ve ever dealt with. Even though you’re listening and nodding, in your head you’re like “this guy is screwin' me big time.” You just believe whatever they say:
Mechanic: “Yeah we had to replace the roof on your car, it resented the rest of the car, so we replaced that. Also, there was a tiny unicorn in your exhaust and he was jumping and poking holes in your exhaust, and he was spitting in your filters as well. So we had to get that out of there.”
Dane: “Wow, thank you very much. I did not know that there was a tiny mythological animal jumping around in there … that’s very dangerous. Spitting in filters, no way. Especially with a road trip coming up, that’s very dangerous. That little son of a b. How much is that? Seven thousand? I was going to suggest, I’d like to pay seven thousand’ish, I’d love to pay for that. Thank you for not screwin’ me big time!”

Re: Automotive Hell - Car Problems
Oki. So I go pick up my car. I go down the road to drop off my cameras from my henna party, I turn around to go pick up my fiancees wedding band-- when the car shuts off on me. I was like, ****! I turned my car back on, turned onto the main road, and put my hazards on. I stroll through the lights and the entire front part of my car begins rattling. Rattling non-stop. I was scared to come to a full stop in case my car shuts off again on the busy main road but crap, have you know there was a red light that I HAD to stop at. So I stroll up to the lights and the entire front car and steering wheel began rattling like CRAZY. I was sooo scared. I drove back down to the car shop, walked over to the guys office. He looked out his office window at me staring at him, my eyes filled with tears. I come into the office and starting crying while telling him what happened.
Needless to say, they now have the car and they drove me back home.
Another needless thing to say- I'm selling my sexy prelude.

Oki. So the guy took the car around, he just called me, said the car is perfect. So now, Alhumdulilah, when I sell it, I can sell it with a good conscious. Yay.
Soooo...what car should I buy?

Re: Automotive Hell - Car Problems
wheelworks- that's gay.
Anyway, I'm thinking I need a more family friendly four door since I'm getting married and all. Budget? Eh. If I get the asking price for the Prelude, I'm looking at 15,00 TOPS. With that figure, I'm looking at a new car.

Re: Automotive Hell - Car Problems
i was car dumb for the longest time and this summer while i was coming home from skool my car started smoking like crazy and the temp went got hot and i pulled over and at first i couldnt open the hood and then when i did manage to open it it was soooo scary.... then i had to call aaa and they came and they towed it because my radiator had a hole in it. then after i got tht fixed a week later my car stalled at skool and i got out and kicked it then went back in and called a friend and she told me to put it in neutral and try it... it worked!
but two days later it died again then we had to tow it to the garage and the guy said it needed a new battery.
ever since then ive learned almost everything i need to know about my car.
daddys supposed to teach me how to change my tires soon. Inshallah.
