Are you cool?
Another thread for all you show offs...
I've been trying to figure out what I'm talented at all my life, and I've found that I'm not talented at ANYTHING. I used to think everybody has something special that makes them stand out from everyone else, but now I'm thinking that maybe most people are average, and only some people are talented. But I dunno, pretty much everyone I know properly is cool in some way or another. That's not to say that I'm completely thick; I'm just average at things, and I'm kind of bored of myself being 'average'.
So you guys, don't be modest and do be truthful, tell us what you're good at and how you came to be good at it.

Doesn't matter if you're talented at doing XYZ or not.
Find something you like doing, and develop a passion for just doing it better and better. Constructively criticize yourself and figure out how you can do it better and faster, with deeper quality.
That's how you develop talent.

Obviously you're not cool.
Nothing wrong with being average. Average people get along well in life. It's the above and below average folks that have a hard time in a variety of areas.

that's called skill. being talented is having a natural aptitude towards something.

I have a knack for writing but I never considered a career in it. I felt like I was only good at writing because I had to compensate for something I was lacking... anywhoo I've always enjoyed my comp sci classes and excelled in my programming classes. as for all my other classes... lets just say i zone in and focus on things i enjoy and neglect everything thing else .. it has its ups and downs

You probably missed the part where I mentioned passion. Many people are skilled at things but they have no passion for the same.

Who cares? Keep trying again. Otherwise with that kind of attitude you're going nowhere fast.
Life is like, maybe 10% about the hand you've been dealt. The rest 90% is about how you react and deal with that 10%. Everyone in this world has it that way, everyone.

So keep doing it until you get better at it.
I'm pretty good at reading and writing but I wasn't born with it. I'm pretty good at various types of artistic expression, but I wasn't born with these talents. Ever since I was a kid I had to work at them to develop them further and further.
Case in point - for most of my life up until the age of 20 I was very introverted and quiet, I kept to my own circle of friends and would never know how to break the ice at any party. When I was in college and university, one of my co-op jobs was selling newspapers for the Globe & Mail from a call-center.
I couldn't sell for beans.
I took the job because time was running out - there was a deadline for the co-op students to get a job for the semester. I sat in that cubicle and just kept working at it, learning from others, trying new methods, silently kinda hating it but just doing what I had to do for a paycheck. At the same time I remembered what Prophet Muhammad said "When you do anything, do it with ihsaan (excellence)..." - so I just kept at it, kept working my way up and getting better at what I do.
And now I'm really good at it, very comfortable at it. President's Club, trips, major prizes, big bonuses, yada yada yada.

Re: Are you cool?
ok so i hadn't drawn anything for 4 months and i thought, oh know "drawers' block", but today i whisked out an image that's been in my mind recently, a woman veiled. Not islamic veil, just cloth with a crown with buildings made of stone in the background and a rough looking sky.
alhamdulillah, i'm going to try and paint it.

Amazing.
I'm annoyed though because everytime I try to achieve something, I fall back down. For example I never really thought about trying to be ace at something until I was 15/16, and back then I tried to do all those things I would love to be good at like write/practice art etc.. I come from a very artistic family, and I seem to be the only one that doesn't have it in me. I'm also a pessimist, and I grew up around people telling me that I'm not good enough all the time. The worst part is I haven't been able to prove them wrong yet.
Put short, I've just sort of given up on trying to be good at something. I never did try to be something I'm not anyway.
