^i thought this was an Islamica Book Club too lol

i took a Novel class last year and we basically read most of the books mentioned in Reading Lolita in Tehran.

we read:
Pride and Prejudice
Lolita
The Great Gatsby
Daisy Miller
and two other books...with names i cannot remember

it was pretty cool. except Reading Lolita in Tehran was boring.

1000 splendid suns might be a little explicit for 14 yr old girls in a masjid... although for the older kids its perfect...

Erm does my head look big in this is a nice one to fit such a wide age range.. about a girl in austraila who tries to don the hijab quite entertaining...

Persepolis?

Looks good.

I would suggest

Pride and Prejudice
The Prince and the Pauper
Jane Eyre (but avoid Wide Sargasso Sea )
Little Women
Washington Square
The Glass Menagerie (if you want plays)
The Secret Garden
Ann of Green Gables
The Stranger
Some of Borges' short stories (The Circular Ruins, Funes the Memorious, The Immortal, The Zahir)

Love in the Time of Cholera is awesome but will get you kicked out of masjid.

More plays: Hedda Gabler, The Doll's House, The Lady from the Sea...the aunties will have your head though, because there's going to be a lot of girls who suddenly stop talking about how much they want to get married.

Another old standby is a short story called The Yellow Wallpaper. Same warning as above.
The Metamorphosis
O. Henry short stories

Sorry, I added stuff about 5 times.
