It's basically a Cuban version of Kite Runner, relative to the Cuban Revolution.

Re: What Are You Reading?
This book is great. Matt Taibbi is a hilarious journalist who writes for Rolling Stone and an independent newspaper in New York (probably some other stuff too). He's very snarky and brutal in the way he describes people and tears them up.
Anyway, in this book, he embeds in Iraq and spends alot of time observing congress to detail the dysfunctions of American government and policies. The most interesting parts though, are where he joins an evangelical megachurch in texas and the "9/11 Truth" movement and describes these groups from both an insider's perspective and the point of view of a sarcastic elitist mocking all the preposterous garbage these people believe in. Its a great book, extremely funny. One complaint is that he definitely has a liberal bias which comes through in how hard he slams one set of politicians compared to the other, but everybody gets crapped on

Re: What Are You Reading?
I mentioned this book a couple of months ago when i had read alot of it, just finishing it up now. This book is really interesting for anybody who likes stuff relating to Native Americans or the history of exploration, etc. At the very least it makes you think about Indians and their place in the world a little bit differently. Parts of it drag on, and the author makes it very obvious that he endorses one theory over another in several areas where there are disagreements (but he's not scientifically qualified), so thats something to take with a grain of salt
I read most of this book at Barnes and Noble, and skimmed the rest. Its an interesting review of the different factions in Egyptian society today and the problems facing the country. The problem is that after going through all the different groups (NDP, muslim brotherhood, liberals, nationalists/nasserites, christians, sufis, etc etc) he makes it clear that he likes some of these groups and hates others. Sometimes its for pretty wierd reasons, for example one of his complaints about the ikhwan is that their representative spoke to him in fusha instead of egyptian arabic, which apparently reflected negative elements of their ideology (somehow). If all the personal opinions and overstatements/unresearched stuff from the author were removed, the book would be a good primer about modern egypt

Re: What Are You Reading?
I just finished Sophie Kinsella's "Shopoholic & Sister". It was a light read, almost like watching a chick flick.

aaaaah. I finished the entire series on my vacation in Turkey this summer. I even bought the last book at the london airport (payed WAY too much for it- I got the first book at wal mart for like 7$, and I payed 10 pounds for it at the airport)
So good. I felt kinda dorky reading it though- with all the high school characters. Like I was too old to be reading it- but I really enjoyed them- except honestly the last one was a little too out there for me.
And I love Jacob.
And I'm really disappointed with the girl they chose to be Bella in the movie.
