Re: What Are You Reading?
jarhead-anthony swofford.
i wouldn't read it if it wasn't required but its interesting to see how the Marines screws up soldiers.
i would reccomend 'The Devil in the White City'
forgot the author's name but its a good read. a lot of mystery and history all in one (rhyme not intended). 'The Namesake' is also really good. but the movie isn't worth the time.

true, not all.
the author basically writes about his experiences during the gulf war and some other battles. its his memoir.
some parts are interesting but most of it consists of the mental and physical tension he endures the whole time. the language is very vulgar and he's really honest about everything. almost every other page is about him harrassing women and challenging the marine stereotype.

Excellent book, worth the read, its what the movie was based off of. Alot of marines call him a whiny *****, but the guy does have some valid points in his book.

Oh duh. I'm sorry. I was terribly exhausted earlier. I couldn't comprehend anything I was reading anymore.
I kept reading it as JARED. And I kept thinking inst that a name?
About Jarhead I was always told it was the hats, but it might be the haircuts that gave them the nickname. Hmmm.
The book sounds interesting. My granddad, dad and uncles were all honest about their experiences in the armed forces. Some saw little to no combat, some saw more than they should and some lost appendages. But they had many interesting stories to tell.
I'll check out the book, I'm reading a few books at the moment.
