Re: What Are You Reading?
Is it better than the movie? I heard the movie was pretty bad.

Re: What Are You Reading?
I'm only a few pages into the book, but it's been interesting so far. I've heard residents say that the book is a pretty accurate description of what to expect during your internship.

me too! I've only gotten through the 1st chapter...It seems so childish; I hope it gets better.
I also got "The Subtle Knife" by Phillip Pullman...The flashy cover intrigued me.

Just finished Atonement. It dragged a bit but the ending was really really good.

I'm not sure. I'm not far into the book, and I've never seen the movie. I have no intention of seeing the movie either. What I heard is that the movie takes place in a single dimension of Pullman's world, but the book occurs in more than one dimension.
It's safe to assume that if you try something like this in a book-to-movie adaptation, something is going to be lost.

the movie didn't do a bad job of it and the multiple dimensions thing was present...the book was better though.

Re: What Are You Reading?
I really enjoyed reading that. There are some amazing people out there and the well written link to how victorian women lived and Iranian women lived was very perceptive. It was really sad how much motivation they had and how much room they had to express it in.
I found it was a great gift to give to people as well.

Me too - it made me want to go and read some of the books she talks about.
I like what she says about the role and importance of fiction and the imagination in cultivating our empathy for other human beings, and the fact that a dulling of empathy is the very worst thing that can happen to a person.
