Revised and explained by Shaikh Abdul Fattah Abu Ghuddah (RA)

There is actually a great made-for-tv series done arouns 2000-2003 by the Sci-Fi Channel which is far better than the movie from the 80's - more faithful to the story for a start and the special effects are much much better. I really enjoyed watching it ("Dune" itself is 3 episodes with "Dune Messiah" being one and "Children of Dune" 2 episodes)
I am now reading "Children of Dune" after finishing the original and Dune Messiah these last few days. I am not too much in to sci-fi books - I prefer fantasy - but his writing is awesome and seems to just happen to be in the future, rather than being all about spaceships/aliens/scary weapons etc.
Agreed on the worms - although I am curious as to what the Fremen dagger looks like being that it is taken a tooth of Shai-Hulud!

To Be a European Muslim by Tariq Ramadan- so far I'm on Chapter 1 and it's interesting, hasn't put me to sleep or too hard to understand. the first half of the book is a history of the islamic sciences and the latter is contemporary issues.

"You have so much, but you gave us so little," the children complained.
"There is no difference whether you have a basketful or a small piece. They all taste the same," Hodja remarked.

Re: What Are You Reading?
need a couple recommendations for casual reading over the break. last book I tried finishing was crime and punishment by tolstoy, but got annoyed with keeping track of all the long russian names. the premise was interesting however and if there were an americanized version, I would read it. last full one I completed was "stiff" by mary roach (a look at the lives of cadavers)
so anyone have good, interesting ones they've read along the same lines?

Very awesome book - essential reading in my view.
Then you have to read his "Islam, the West and the Challenges of Modernity" and "Western Muslims and the Future of Islam" as they all build on that book (which was his first major one).
On another note, his most recent book "In the Footsteps of the Prophet: Lessons from the Life of Muhammad" is a beautiful read and very inspiring... not as technical and geeky as the books above. I really enjoyed it.
