This reminds me a little bit of the actions of the police during the Gujurat riots.

There's this really good documentary film made by a great Indian director (who is Hindu btw), called the Final Solution, which shows what happened during the buildup and the actual riots themselves.

The police colluded with the extremists to such an extent that there was several occasions where the Muslims went to the police for protection from the mob, and the police sent them out, and the mob leaders were getting instructions on their mobile phones from the police (!) as to where the Muslims were. The police were literally herding the Muslims into the path of the mobs. And obviously we know the rest... lots of men and boys got slaughtered, and the women got raped. Sick.
