Re: The Urdu Thread
so we brought home some books from his parents' from when he was little and his mom used to teach him from... bachchoN ki kahaniaN. the other night, he was trying to read a story to me. and it was so funny. cuz he'd just make up words for those he couldn't read instead of trying to put the letters together and figuring it out like that... so yeah, i'm a long way from reading ghazals* to him. but it's fun. soon, inshaAllah. before i forget the little urdu that i still know.
word for the day:
imaarut (ain-meem-alif-ray-tay)= building
same word spelled differently in urdu (alif-meem-alif-ray-tay?) means wealth, i think.
*aaj jaanay ki ziD na keroo
yuNhi pehloo maiN baithay rahoo
hai mer jaaiN ge
hum to lutt jaaiN ge
aisee baataiN kia na keroo
aaj jaanay ki zid na keroo...
